SKU not found on their website.....discontinued?

What does the kit include? just the NIC?

If it had the Acess point (transmitter), I'd go get one ASAP!!!

Just purchased this. It comes with 2 USB wireless LAN modules and Sygate software. Up to 150 feet in home (500' direct view) and max 1Mps. Haven't gotten it to work yet, but it seems like a nice enough setup that you can use it with another home computer or a laptop if you have an available USB port (although you have to haul a little module with you). Apparently, it uses quite a bit of power from the USB port because I can't get it to work through my MS internet keyboard USB port. Not too bad for $30 considering it retails for about $150. Here's a link to buy.com site:

The USB device is a transmitter and a receiver. No special access points are needed.
Network sharing for drives and the printer works fine. I cannot as of yet get it to recognize my DSL connection on my server. I already have a network configured and the other computers share the net via AllAboard network sharing.

I don't think Sygate (which comes with it) works on Ameritech's DSL service since they use PPOA rather than the standard PPOE. I need to get AllAboard to recognize the USB transmitter as the network connection.

Is it worth $30? I couldn't run a network cable to my wife's computer so at least she can connect to the main machine and use the printer. If I can get it to share the net it will be worht the money.

I'm only able to get about 256kbps from it. I think the bottleneck is not in the transmitter(the wireless part is remarkably robust - it continues at 256kbps even if I put both units inside seperate metal drawers. I haven't done a distance test yet).

Got mine from Office Depot. Pretty easy setup, got file sharing up in about 10 minutes, Sygate and internet up in about another 20 or so. I am using ATT@Home cable modem. By the way, Sygate says that I have a limit of 100 mb of transfer before I have to "register". So is only the trial version of sygate included in this package? Didn't say anything about that on the outside of the box... rather misleading.

Friggin' Score man!

Picked up two sets of two at OD in Eugene, OR on Coburg
Road, Store #920.

There were two more on the shelf at 20:18 on 122800.
One of them has an additional 10% off, due to open
box, looked inside, all the parts were there.

No stringing coax around the house! No more sneaker net
RC5 or extra modems!

Kudos to joeyhamlin!!!

Wow, that was the easiest network I've ever set up!!!

Just had to remember to click on the drives on the local machine, selected sharing, and bam, everything was up and running.

Even had it up and running in the computer in my truck(in front of my house)!!!
Haven't set up any MP3 stuff, been doing USGS topos with a GPS, but if you
want to talk about slick as...I shot a bunch of new topos out to the truck (works alot
better if you set the unit on top of the vehicle during transfers), transfered GPS
logs from the truck to my home computer, wow...!

Now, lets see, WinGate, wonder if we can get it working on the wireless for internet access!?!

It's been four years since I set it up on my network, worked great, never set it back up when I moved.

Anybody?

Considering this retails for $125.95 it's VERY tempting. A nice quick easy simple no hassles USB network.

I already have the SMC barricade on 3 computers connected to cablemodem but I am interested in using this for my laptop. Has anybody tried using this unit ( plus Sygate) together with the Barricade? Thanks.

Are you guys really talking about OFFICE DEPOT?

I just came from one and the sku number didn't show on their database. The guy said that 479-011 was not an OficeDepot number. I called another store and got the same answer. Checked their catalog and nada.

So what's up? Are you guys really talking about OfficeDepot or is it OfficeMax? Could California be the one place they don't even have on their database?

Please let me know, as this would be a perfect test kit for a larger network I'm planning with my neighbors.

Or if someone is able to get two and wants to sell me one for $45 shipping included, please let me know as well.

clutz123, I just got off the phone with a sales rep from Office Depot. He said there was no such SKU(479-011) and no such name (Acer Warplink Wireless...)

Could you give me the store address or phone number where you got yours? This is sounding funny but I feel I've just entered the "TwilightZone" ta-ta-ta-ta...

Real weird, I'm on the phone now with a girl( ) in the Eugene store in Oregon, and she found it by the sku.

Her explanation was that maybe they have already deleted it in my area since it is a discontinued item. That's reasonable. I'm safe

But the drag is that the two that Jarhead left on the shelf are already gone.

Anybody else that left something on the shelf could you give the store location?

Thanks.

I picked up the last 2 on the shelf in Dublin, CA on 12/23 and used a $10 off $50 coupon that expired on the 24th. There is now a $15 off $50 that you might be able to use to make this a pretty good deal. The transmitters are quite lightweight, and would seem to be larger than they need to be. As a rought point of reference, each USB device is about the size/shape of a car radar detector.

I can't speak for quality because I gave 'em away as a Christmas gift, but the idea of cheap wireless networking is worth the risk. Worse case scenario, you eb@y them for more than you paid.

Anybody who got this into work with internet sharing?
I don't think this would be possible without
getting an access point.
