I don't know wireless networking very well, but I'd imagine that their bundling of SyGate strongly suggests that Internet connection sharing is possible.

I went to the OD in Oakland, CA near Fruitvale Ave. Not sure of #, but i'm sure you can look it up. I'm thinking that places that are sold out already deleted the SKU.

Sygate is for internet sharing, which is included. Works great for me, I can transfer basically a meg per minute, which is ok for web surfing. I think only the trial version is included though.

It's a suppose to be 1 Mbits/s, but your will probably get around 600 Kbits/s in real world enviroment.

I bought an extra one for a friend, and he changed his mind about wanting it. If anyone still needs one and can't find one let me know, I'll sell it to you for the price I paid, plus my tax I paid, plus shipping w/insurance. I'll check back here later, leave your e-mail if interested.

goody goody, not only you can share the internet connection but you can add more systems to the network. Which is what I want.

The only catch is that they require a Sybase license upgrade for more than two users, which defeats the purpose of a bargain.

So my question is, is there any other free software that will share an internet connection?

I know WinME has it but I'm on W2k. I thought I heard that w2k had the same software, but I never looked into it. Is that true?

Thanks.

And thanks joeyhamlin for the great deal. You're a great piper

I just set it up on my win2k box to share with my laptop, also running win2k. I'm not even using the sygate crap, just good ole ICS in win2k. Just go to your DSL/Dial-up connection and chose to share it with the Warplink connection and you'll be all set. Works great. I'm actually kind of pleasantly suprised with it.

I just measured the speed and it tops out at 420kilobits/sec, or about 50-55kilobyte/sec. That's about half of what it's advertised at, but cool none the less.

I have had a Warplink setup for a while. It runs along with my 100Mbs ethernet system. I bought it to use with my laptop as well as a room that I didn't want to run ethernet cable to. I have Windows ME ICS running and it allows me to share my DSL connection with two network devices. The DSL goes into one NIC, and out another to the ethernet, and also to the Warplink system. I don't use the Sygate software at all.

I initially had an ISA warplink card set up as the host, but I think there was too much RF garbage around the back of my PC and the range sucked. These USB devices allow much greater range in my system, probably due to more optimal placement.

The speed is maxes out around what the others in this post have stated. 1 Mbs is a pipe dream.

Despite this last shortcoming, Don't hesitate on this deal if you can find it.

Is it just me or did I just get a trial version of sygate?

I get promted for a reg number, and I can't find one in any of the docs or CD.

As it is I am limited to 100Mb transfered. BTW I did get the net working with telcity, but was having trouble getting file sharing setup (I have no networking experience )I kept screwing with it, both systems could see each other through the warplink utilities and the sygate program, but I never got them recognized through network neighborhood. Eventually, I mees the internet connection up as well, so I'll unload all of it and start over.

At least I know that the problem is me and not the product. This is a hot deal @ $30.

Anybody else strugling with the w2k drivers?

I had to rename 5 files just so I could install the damned thing.

Now the link is refering to a file "warplink.exe" that does not exist.

WTH, this is turning out to be an all around pain. I'm giving up and going to sleep. I'll try it again next Millennium, sheesh!
