Where can I find the ISA version? I need to put one on my linux box to make my home wireless network complete.
I have one extra unopened box that can be used to swap with one ISA card.

thanks,

Jono

Thanks JH. Let my in-laws know about it and they were able to find one in Orange County (CA) this afternoon (Sunday). Actually been looking to find something like this for the past couple of weeks and man they're happy with the price.

The store they went to didn't have it out (had it stashed in the back) so there might still be a few out there. Now if I could just find a CyberGenie for myself!

Justdeals.com has a set of 2 ISA cards for 59.95. They used to have 1 for 39.95. There are also PC card versions for laptops, but they don't list those anymore either.

I get the exact same error... about the inf file. Did you find a way around it?

Anyone get this darn thing installed under Win2k yet? I cant get it to work. I get an error on the inf file and also 2 errors when installing the software, something about an incorrect path to the manual files or something.

AnalogX Proxy works well with this kit. Got internet connection sharing up in no time....and it's free from download.com

I get an error upon installation about the manual files also. Funny, it works on one machine with Win Me, but not another with Win 98.

To get around the win2k install problems you have to rename a few of the files from the web. It seems the person who created the self extracting zip didn't allow long filenames so they get truncated with the "~1" stuff.

What I did is rename all files with "~1" or "~2" to corresponding names that you can find on the CD which came with the set.

Once I did that I reinstalled then rebooted and it seem to work ok in win2k. I still haven't hooked up another machine to test communications yet though.

Thanks for the advice, Vec. Now it installs fully, yet says it is missing a dll. Also, when booting up the laptop with the usb wireless doodad plugged in, it hangs. My goal was to have wireless internet connectivity anywhere in the house on my laptop. Just plug it in and go anywhere, kitchen, living room, etc and be able to surf the web.

I will be getting a new Toshiba Tecra 8100 here in a few weeks and will try again then with a fresh install of Win2k pro.

What kind of range is everyone getting with these. I just bought two and want to share an internet connection with a guy that lives in the same apartment complex as me. We have direct sight of each other (through a window) and was encouraged by the claim to go 500 ft with direct sight.

I'm very frustated with this gizmo. So far nothing but headaches.

Besides the original filename probs installing in W2k, I failed installation in W98 as well. Then I succeeded, then I failed...

I found out that it works fine if I blank my Netgear network card settings. But as soon as put anything there in order to access the net, warplink fizzles out on the next reboot.

Then I tried installing it on my neighboor's W95 laptop. No luck there either. I tought it could the W95 USB problem. So I tried it on her W98 laptop and it worked.... sorta.

For some reason it worked her CPU to death. Just by mapping it and opening up the drive on WinExplorer made her PII233 max out. Because the CPU was so overworked I couldn't really test the transfer speed reliably.

I tried to open up a zip file thru Netscape and I got speeds from 1.5KBps to 6.5KBps. Nothing to get excited about. Granted that she was about 40-50 feet and a couple walls away. But I expected more than that. This week we'll try again with the two computers next to each other.

So besides the hassle to find it, the hassle to install it, now I have to deal with processor overuse. If anyone is experiencing the same shyt, lemme know, maybe we can figure this out in another thread.

I will return mine too.
Not at all what I expected. And the thing is quite large too.
And you are right about slowing down the PC, mine became sluggish.

Since I had it installed on the win2k machine, I decided to install it on a win98 laptop. When I tried to do that it hung up upon installation.

I then tried to install it on a win98 desktop and it installed correctly, but couldn't get communication working. I then downloaded the win98 drivers from their website (thinking compatibility between drivers) and installed those. Finally got their utility to see both host and client.

After that I tried to set up file or print sharing but could not get that working. Tried to assign ip addresses to both nodes but that didn't help. After a while I gave up and uninstalled both.

After uninstalling on the win2k machine, repeated errors kept popping up. It seems winmgmt.exe was having problems (don't ask me what it is or does). I think I tracked it down to a packet protocol which gets installed on win2k, but did not get uninstalled.

What a hassle. If anyone here has a walkthrough on how to set these things up let me know. If not I'll be returning them or selling them.

I found out one of the two modules was dead. Only one works. That is why I had installation troubles. If you have one that installs and one that doesn't, try switching the modules to the computer that works. That way at least it can be determined if it is a hardware problem.

Here's my painful steps to get this thing working (on two Win98 SE machines):

1. Installed utility/drivers.
2. Plugged in the devices into the USB ports.
3. Went through the setup (specified host/client, password, workgroup, etc...)
4. After both computers saw each other, I went into Network settings, specified the IP Addresses (10.0.0.1 for host, 10.0.0.2 for client), added File/Printer sharing, IPX/SPX Protocol and NetBeui protocol. Rebooted.
5. Installed AnalogX Proxy on both machines for internet connection sharing.
6. Installed SocksCap32 (get Outlook Express to work with the Proxy).

This after many reboots, experimentations....
