Hot Deal? Siemens Wireless Networking Equipment @ Circuit City

There is tons of stock left at St. Cloud, MN store where I went. They had a bunch of everything on the shelves. Also they had the Siemens Indoor 6 dbi gain antenna for $9.99. I bought one and am wondering if I can hook it up to my Dlink 614.... Seemed like it was worth a try. -TAL

Installed the pcmcia card on my wife's laptop. Took about 2 min. Better signal strength than the Compaq usb adapter I was using.

I ordered a wireless router, PCMCIA card, and USB adapter, but the USB adapter was not in stock when I showed up at the store. So the sales clerk found another one for me 30+ miles away. I'm pretty annoyed at having to drive so far.

At the store I also picked up a $10 antenna, $10 USB 10/100 network adapter, and a $15 10/100 PCMCIA card.

Mwilding rox. I just cancelled my router + PC card ($150) order at Dell since I was able to order both online for $50, pickup in the morning at the Arrowhead Mall store in Phx/Peoria Az. They're out of the router at the closest store, MetroCenter. Mwilding, you just saved me $100. Shades of ROSSMAN!

Sheesh, I'm saving so much money I'm going to be broke. Again.

It's definitely a hot deal. I went and got one. Good thing I didnt buy other Siemens product that was on sale because I am having problems with this and wep. it keeps getting disconnected and I always have to input the wep key. does anyone have same problem? sorry to go slightly off topic. if it works flawless with my DLink 614+, it's an really hot deal.

There is a rumor that Siemens/Efficient Networks is leaving the retail networking market. So that may explain why Circuit City is clearing out all these products.

I bought the Powerline/wireless router and the powerline WAP. A friend of mine and I are going to try to network since we're both in same apartment building. Circuit City doesn't have the Siemens 2502 Powerline Ethernet adapter. Does anyone have suggestions on where to get the cheapest Homeplug 1.0 standard ethernet bridge? only one i've seen is linksys for frickin' $100!?

CC in Parkersburg, WV has the following on the shelf(or they did last night):

Two Powerline routers
Two Powerline receivers
10/100 NICs for desktops(several)
10/100 NICs for laptops(three or four), not the 802.11b kind
Had one cable/DSL router left

Please note that the prices shown on the shelf were regular prices. I wanted the 802.11b NICs for laptops and the WAP, but they didn't have any.

I should have read the rest of the thread to see if someone replied to you, but are you on WinXP? If so, disable the Zero Wireless Configuration service and that should help significantly.

I have one on order so...Can someone explain the print server functionality. I have an HP psc950 all in one printer that only uses USB to connect to the computer. Am i still able to connect this to the router? If i scan something on this printer or loaded pictures, can it send that data to one of the computers??? Thanks.

The powerline can be used wirelessly just like the other router but does not include the print server. You also have the option of using the powerline functionality which i believe means you have to buy additional powerline receivers that plug into you ac outlet and the device which you want intenet on.

I have been wanting to give wireless a try... I picked up my router and usb adapter at lunch today. Now I just have to wait for the end of the day to get home and try it out.

I bought the PCMCIA card and it didn't work as well as I hoped. My Orinoco Silver USB got a signal in places the Siemens refused to work. Funny thing was that the card utility said it was getting 33%, but Windows kept dropping it saying the signal was poor. I also had the laptop 2 feet away from the router (Netgear MR314) and only got 77% at best. I know a $20 card isn't going to compare to the Orinoco, but I figured there would be more than 77% at its best. I hope you guys will have better luck than I had.

Can i use the powerline router + the Homeplug Powerline 802.11.b Adapter to make a homemade wireless bridge?

I want to hook up my xbox wirelessly as cheap as possible

Does the Homeplug Powerline work with the regular Wireless Router? Also, is there a way to get the USB Adapter to work with the PS2? In the previous post I put USB Router, but I meant USB Adapter. If not, it looks like I'll have to return the USB Adapter.

Well, just got back from the local CC here in Mechanicsburg and picked up the Powerline Wireless Router (for $50) and the Antenna (for $10) ... evidentally one of the local hawk computer retailers picked up on this thread because I went in and had just picked up my two pieces (I wanted the USB adapter as well for my PS2 but no luck in Mech.) ... and a guy came in behind me and bought all the remaining 7 Powerline Wireless Routers, Wireless NICs, and anything else on the shelf. His shirt even said clearly ABC (not the actual company name) Computers, so you know he was buying these to resell to customers at higher prices.

Sorta upset me but oh well, at least I got mine ...

Yes, it's kinda upsetting because same thing happened to me. Except for the fact the guy came in before me and cleaned everything up. I just wanted to get a wireless router and a USB adapter for personal use.

The print server on the 2624 requires a parallel connection. It does not support bidirectional drivers (for example, the printer cannot send a message back to the PC that it is jammed or out of paper). It does not support the scanner in the all-in-one unit. It is also much slower than a printer directly connected to your PC.

If you've only got a wireless laptop and don't do much printing, it's a real convenience to connect a parallel printer to the SpeedStream and never have to hook it to the laptop. If you've got a desktop wired to the network, you will get much better results simply using Windows networking to send your print jobs from your wireless PC to the desktop's printer.
