I pay $5 a month for my Tivo service. I own a Directv with Tivo unit, not the stand alone unit. I have too say Tivo is great

If this turns out to be true, it will be a VERY COLD deal for those of us that bought the lifetime subscription ... but good for your guys that are on monthly

I seriously doubt it though that they can afford to do it ...

I may keep my Standalone Tivo if this is true. I just purchased the Hughes Series 2 Directivo so I could cut $8 off my monthly fee ($4.99 Directivo vs $12.99 Standalone).

very surprising considering both replay and tivo are already struggling financially....but maybe this will help get more people to buy them. low subscription numbers have been the main source of their problems.

I went to the Tivo website - and it stil says $12.95 monthly, $249 lifetime. Is this just for DirectTv with Tivo - or just for the standalone Tivo, too?

http://www.tivo.com/3.0.asp

SpongeBobPalmBay, were you paying $12.95 before - and the new bill for January $5?

Excuse the dumb questions....

The $5 price is just for the DirecTiVo units, not the standalones. It was $10 for the DTivos until just a month or two ago. The reason for the drop in price is that DirecTV is now taking over all of the support for the DTivos, so TiVo Inc. is only concerned with software updates, not subscription service, on the satellite units.

About 5 months ago, the fee for Standalone units went from $9.95 to $12.95, so I doubt they're going to drop it to $5 any time soon.

So did I, with my Tivo. I'd go lifetime on my ReplayTV 4504 for $200 too, if they ever offered the same deal.

From the replayTV service activation agreement on the sonicblue website.

SONICblue now offers customers a choice of two payment options to activate and use the ReplayTV Service. Customers can now sign up for a $9.95 monthly service fee or pay a one-time $250 service activation fee. The $9.95 monthly fee provides service to the most full-featured, award winning DVR on the market at the lowest monthly cost of any standalone DVR.

$9.95, I don't see $12.95. Maybe they lowered it since you guys last looked?

Tivo raised the monthly rate to $12.95 a while ago. Replay is still $9.95 monthly. Tivo lifetime is now $250 and I am not sure on Replay.

Ya I was talking about Tivo going to $12.95 When the annouced that they had a special offer to get lifetime service for $200 which I did.

Replay was free at the start but the machines had a huge price tag. I got my Tivo at Target for $75 on clearance then put in a 40 gig hard drive
I had laying around so now I have a 60 hour unit with lifetime service for only about $325 total cost.

Same here. Bought my first replay for around $350. after rebate. But the 2nd two I picked up open box for $99 a piece after rebate.

But I am looking to possibly upgrade to one of the replays. They got some neat features.
