USR = 3com now I believe. I'm not really sure how much of the original company is left besides the name. I suppose 3com is still using them to make modems. The name has faded since they got bought but at one time discerning geeks wouldn't be caught with any other brand modem in a box (or next to one).

Otherwise, great price but I'd rather shop at best buy than take my chances with tiger direct. On second thought, maybe I'll just skip both of those losers.

very hot deal. US Robotics back in the day was THE best modem brand hands down. I think they had some financial problems though and are were bought by 3com, which had(has?) the best reputation for lan equipment out there.

o....the router looks crap tho...and $13 shipping sucks. Anybody know if they have any free shipping promotions anytime?

USR was bought by 3Com; not just for USR, but for Palm (remember that this was a high-flyer not too long ago). I believe that USR has since been spun off from 3Com - and just haven't heard their name in a long time. The problem is that USR's big business is modem's - and now that a lot of people have high speed in their desktop and built in modems in their laptop, they need a new market. I am leery about buying from Tiger Direct (although will have a retail store in Raleigh to shop from); I bought a Netgear 614 (#2 in the ratings on this page) for $39 after a $30 MIR from Fry's on Friday.

I have purchased from TigerDirect in the past - way back when they were a mail-order place and more recently (as recent as 2 months ago). I have never had a back experience from them, and have gotten everything I've order as it was listed. I have also gotten all rebates I have put in for from TigerDirect purchases. Some others have not had the success I've had, but my experience with them has been perfect so far. The only real complain I have with TD is their very high shipping prices.

It at least, looks like the rebates are USR and NOT tiger direct. I would be much more inclined to buy since it is that way. I would never do anything from tiger direct if it was a rebate sent to tiger direct. But since it is to the mfg (USR), I would be much more inclined to buy it.
