Nice. Quite a bit cheaper than the comparable Hitachi-LG (4163). Such drives do not accept cartridges. I wonder if it supports Book Type setting? Expect more RAM drives from lower tier brands as the independent chipset makers climb on the multi-feature band-wagon to prop up falling pricing power.

Looks like the ultimate drive at a kick-arse price. Since it's new I wonder how it handles different media types. Couldn't find any firmwares listed on the panny site.

What's really the point of DVD-RAM besides the fact that it can be overwritten 100,000 times.

For precious data it's not very reliable.

DVD-RAM is extremely reliable compared to -RW or +RW. Excellent for long-term data archival purposes. Other re-writable formats (-RW or +RW) become flaky after a couple dozen re-uses. DVD-RAM goes on and on and on and on.....

Why is it so hard for them to come out with a new DVD-RAM drive that can read DVD-RAM in cartridges? The early generation drives could do that.
