Dealer: I am not sure if the MODs would let us start a thread like that. But we could use this thread for it.

I think he was talking about starting a whole new forum instead of just a thread.

Yeah I think he was too. But there are a lot of problems with it. Also the Admin has said no to it before.

Is there any way to keep this visible for newbies without having to constantly bump it?

going back to the Respect issue, Respect also comes with the amont of time on the BBS and knowing what is and isnt allowed from when this first started like the Free Food Thread it normally would be off topic but was allowed by the Oh so Generous Mod and has been around ever since. Thanks for everyone who has supported to keep it alive BTW. I have been around since Last Oct and I have only achieved Senior Status but that is because I do not post junk on threads to get my posts up. Well, thats all I got.
Thanks,

(Posted in the Iwanna thread as well):

For all you IWANNA hot deal people... here's how to get your request noticed:

1) Figure out what you want a hot deal on.
2) Go to a price search page, like PRICEWATCH.com or one of the many cheapy vendors out there and find the item you are looking for at the lowest price you can find it including S&H etc... (chances are you've already done this which is why you are asking here).
3) Now the cool part: Post you lowest price in a NEW thread as a hot deal. (You can do this even if it doesn't seem "hot" to you, if you are scared you can post it as a warm or luke-warm deal. JUST Don't be a lamer and post the first price you've found, post the best price. Do some research. That way you won't be cheating! NOTE: Be sure not to ask if this is the best deal /or/ if others have found a better deal. If you do this people will know your intent. Just post your deal--that's it.
4) Next, wait. Either people will complain about your post and say how they found it cheaper somewhere else. Or they won't. Either way, you've either found a hot deal or someone will reply with a hotter deal.

And you didn't have to use that useless thread which no one ever reads because no one is interested in reading about requests for hot deals, they want the real thing. This way, everyone wins--as long as you aren't lame and post the first / worst price you find!

[SoapBox]
And don't go off about how this is cheating the system, that's not my intent at all. If you've been here for any length of time you'll know that's how EVERY on-topic thread in this forumn works, someone posts a hotdeal and others criticize it or jump on the bandwagon and purchase it.
[/Soapbox]

What is wrong with another forum? I know no one would want lots of them, but all it means to Anandtech is more revenue generated by people visiting that forum..... I guess people have to mod it more.... But I still think it could be a good idea....

Just to add to what dman6666 said, when you're checking prices using pricewatch, open another browser window to Reseller Ratings and check out each vendor starting with the lowest price and moving through the list. When you find a seller with a good rating you're all set.

Wouldn't it make more sense to respect what Senior Members say because they post intelligently?

Just wondering...
Thanks for the tips tho, Illuminating

Great Idea!!
==========================================================================
Dealer
"Start a new forum called 'Hot Deals Discussion.'
That way people new or old can talk about anything they want and not have to worry about somebody whining that is was the wrong thing to say.
"

Another good idea, but unless/until the Mods do this, maybe we could just use this thread. (Like Zorba suggested). If we do, it should stay fairly current.

Read all the answers to this thread. Being a "Senior" doesn't make one any more intelligent. I am a perfect example.

Frequently Asked Questions that I'd like to see the answers to:

Guidelines for pricematching... ie, Who will match whom and at what point can coupons and/or rebates be applied?

Coupons in general... Not "wHat R the CodeZ duDez?", but who honors them, and how to apply them in different situations (B&M stores, phone orders, etc.)

Distributer stock tracking... When those "to good to be true" deals come up, where are the resources to see if the seller can actually get the stuff to ship?

Thanks
Matt
