I can't believe I'm replying to this...

1. Even if this was a good deal, it's not a hot deal because they've had the same exact deal for years. I did this in 1996.

2. Ever wonder how they can do it? They charge outrageous shipping for each disc - way over actual costs.

I've always wondered how much they actually charge for shipping?? Care to tell?

You've got to be kidding, this is a Hot Deal? Next you'll post Columbia House, but not the CH site, some spammer site that links to them.

$2.59 for a single disk. They always have promotional deals after you sign up where you can get CDs for $7 shipped. I don't think that is too bad. It seems like they have this type of promotion at least every month, so there is no point in buying at club prices.

This is still a great deal because even after shipping and taxes, each cd will be slightly over $6 with nothing else to buy. I highly recommend BMG if you want to add some CD's to your collection. One of the bad things is that you have to wait a few months for the newest cd's to come out.

You can also wait for deals that have free shipping and get cd's for around $7

I just signed up for BMG, shipping is $19 for 7 cd's. I'll wait for buy 1 get 3 free offer and than get 4 remaining free selections and close the account.

FWIW, you can get any of BMG's titles (at least I think it is their whole catalog) for $6.99 shipped, no membership required. Got the offer from being registered with CDNow, which is interesting in and of itself... Why would CDNow be promoting another retailer?

BMG $6.99 Deal

Yep, that's the way to do it. CD's should average out to ~ $4.50 - $5.00 if it's like it used to be.

It confused me too when it happened, but when CDNow was bought out, amazon took over the regular cdnow.com, and the CDNow "Preferred Buyer's Club" (cdnowpbc.com) apparently became a front for selling BMG CD's at 8.99 and up. The list of available titles at bmgmusic.com and cdnowpbc.com are nearly identical AFAIK.

Man - that definitely was not warranted. This is an alright deal but I think BMG / Columbia House type deals usually shine in the DVD area. I think dvdtalk has a thread/section for just this which usually averages out to ~$7-9 DVD.

Some people are actual music fans.

And think about it... somebody has to buy the CDs in order to support dumb leeches like you.

ummm... okay

I'm not sure why you've got yer undies-in-such-a-bundle over this D.S. but I'm sure you feel better now...dontcha . btw, I'm a little hazy on your logic. You, buying your music from some little music club makes you an "actual music fan?" but people that share music on the net are not ?actual music fans?? That just seems kind of goofy to me ... But hey, you're the Golden Member here (so to speak) ...that must account for something.

Are you exaggerating or is it really weekly these days? I know they have some online option so you can opt out of the monthly mailing instead of having to send in the stupid card by mail.

Except buying from BMG or the other big CD club does not support the artists at all. Apparently their contracts require that they sign some sort of marketing deal that allows these clubs to sell the CDs without royalties. I'm somewhat sure that is still true today. One could argue that maybe the aritist wouldn't get the contract without this clause thrown in but still... it is lame if true.

Anyone got some debunking on this?

It is only a monthly email. It's so much better than the old mail in card method. In fact, they send out a warning email before your "featured selection" is sent to out reminding you to respond.
