Im gonna get in on this tomorrow, I hope my RS is low enough in traffic that I can get one.

I have a question though.. to get on wireless net with this. How much is the part, and what is the monthly?

You are right! Both H3635 and H3135 are discontinued models. The new IPAQ is lighter weight and thinner. But basically they function the same.

I have an IPAQ H3670. I go online through my Startec cell phone. All you need is a cellular modem with an appropriate cable. No extra charge for data download since I have Verizon. But ofcoz they charge you the airtime when you use the phone. I got my modem from Buy.com for $77 coming with the cable.

Used to have a 3635 and now have a 3835 (64mb RAM)- great for MP3s, I agree that one should use the WMA format (similar sound quality, at least through ear buds, and use up 1/2 the space of MP3s). Several great MP3 players out there (in addition to the built-in MS Media Player)- the 3835 also has bass and treble controls.

Here's a tip for you guys, the guy at my local Rat Shack told me that if they don't have it in stock, they can special order it for you from their wearhouse. So don't get pissed off if they're out, just go in the store and ask them to place an order for you.

Yeah, that's what I did. First store I called at 8:40AM, didn't have them in stock...there are 60+ Radio Shacks in my area, and I wasn't about to call all of them, so the manager just ordered 12 of the 3635s for me from the warehouse.

The 3135s are another story...there are only 2 in my entire district of 60+ stores, and those 2 are likely to be display models. All the warehouses nationwide are out of the 3135s.

Justincase he may have ordered them but he wont get them. The warehouse is out and they are not getting any more of them. His order will just get zeroed out, sounds like you get a newbie manager or one that has no idea how the system works. All ya have to do is call one store and they can find out which stores in their district or region have them.

I called 4 of the 10 radioshacks in my city(and a small city)

2 display models were available - but the guy had them listed at 549, but that was the one in the mall, hint hint

called the others and they said that the one in the mall had taken the other ones, but they said i could special order, for a limited time. Oh and no 3135s only 3 were in the entire zip code.

Gonna make a few calls then probably do a special order, 3135 for $75 would've been nice, i got mine for $78(off ubid 3150) about 3 months ago.

Asked about the iPaq 3635. She tells me yes, they have one in the
cage in back. I wait five minutes while she goes to look for it. She
comes back with it. I buy it. On my way.

I picked up one unit yesterday at RS. Manager said they may have another unit left in the whole city. Called the manager again today to reserve that last unit and he said that he worked out a deal because I was ordering two units to give me a better price. I asked him was it because there was a price drop in the product. He said no but he worked out a deal by talking to the Vice President and was able to offer me a better deal. What a croc. He's trying to win me over by giving me all this BS. Anyway I probably will not keep the second unit. If somebody want it I might be able to sell it for cost + shipping. I'm not sure if the rebate will work as it might be just for the original purchaser.

Actually they're not thinner because they still use the same compactflash and pcmcia jacket that the 3600 series used. They've remapped the buttons on the 3835 and fixed the button pressing issue (pressing two buttons at the same time...good for games).

I called myself and RadioShack does not have them in stock @ the Warehouse so that means they can't special order them, order them online, or order them on their regional order So if the manager says he can order them he can't ( They can only get them from other retail stores). I just don't won't you guys to waste your time or get pissed. Their are plenty of them still around at the 5600 RS retail stores. You just might have to do a little hunting for them

Just called the manager of the store I ordered from (I ordered at 8:40AM)...she had none in stock at the time, and confirmed that the warehouse does not have them - she is physically going to the other stores in the area and has ALREADY collected 6...she GUARANTEED that she will have all 12 for me when I come to pick them up on the weekend. The 3635s are still around...get 'em while you can.

Some radio shacks have them in stock still. You can get it for a lower price if you pm
elsewhere it and use a coupon. Since Office Depot has them in stock, this would be
good. I believe there is a $30 coupon floating around.

jeesh, so many anandtechers around my area - or something. can't find one.

most stores say they can special order it and guaranty the price for 30 days. the orders will be placed to the warehouse. so i guess you'll have to be patience.

with the ability to place special orders to the warehouse, i think that will make it easier to pricematch. i'm gonna try. co-workers want them, too.

Funkie, there is no limit on the compaq ipaq rebate. the fine print on the form should said
"This offer is limited to one rebate per qualifying purchase. Valid while supplies last for purchases made in the U.S., U.S. territories and on U.S. military bases only. The rebate is not available on refurbished iPAQ Pocket PC product purchased through Compaq Factory Outlet or other resellers. Promotion is void where prohibited or restricted by law."
