Great deal for today only. The Dell UltraSharp 2001FP 20.1" LCD monitor is down to just $709.25 with free shipping, thanks to a 25% off coupon (expiring 7/30/04) and a stackable single day $40 off $400+ Electronics & Accessories coupon (expires tonight, 7/26/04 at 11:59pm CT, or after first 1500 uses).

2001FP, as you probably already know is a 20.1" UXGA (1600x1200) LCD monitor with DVI-D, VGA, S-Video, composite inputs, swivel (portrait & landscape), and 4-downport USB. It's rated at 250 cd/m2 typical brightness, and 400:1 contrast, with 176°/176° vertical/horizontal viewing angles. Its Benq panel is rated at a 16ms total average response time.

1600x1200 via DVI works with single link DVI using compressed blanking intervals, so no special DVI card is necessary.

Dell Home only collects sales tax from FL, KY, NC, NV, OH, PA, TN, IL, TX, ID, VA, MO, CA too.

UPDATE 7/27/04: for those of you who missed it, there's a new $30 off $300+, so it's $719.25 shipped.

UPDATE 7/28/04: Another now, for $35 off $450+, so it's $714.25 shipped.

UPDATE 7/29/04: There's a new $30 off $400+, so it's $719.25 shipped.

Freakin sales tax, I'm so close to getting this but I'm such a poor college student, maybe I'll just stick with ramen all semester.

Is this monitor really as good as you're making it out to be? I've been thinking of upgrading from my 15" NEC LCD for a while now. Been thinking about getting Apple's 20" Cinema Display, but this one seems pretty good too.

It's still one of the best 20" LCD choices out there, especially for the price. Is it the be all and end all of monitors? No.

Both this monitor and the current Apple 20" Cinema display use LG panels, current generation 16ms ones. The Apple is widescreen, but has slightly lower resolution (1680 x 1050 vs 1600 x 1200). Brightness, Contrast, viewing angles and the rest of the specs are pretty similar, both spec wise and practically speaking.

The Dell does have VGA, composite, and S-video inputs, in addition to the DVI, giving you some other options. You can plug your VCR into it and use it as a TV. You can also pivot it to portrait instead of just using it in landscape.

Considering the price difference (low $700 vs almost $1300), I'd personally grab the Dell over the Apple. We're talking almost a 2-1 price difference. This being said, it's your pocketbook, and ultimately, you have to decide what fits your purposes better.

Thanks. Wasn't really aware of this Dell monitor. Even with academic discount on the Cinema Display (~$1100), the Dell's still the better deal.

Well, after freaking out early Saturday morning about missing the Friday deal, I finally pulled the trigger on this one (sales tax be damned). Hope it lives up to its reputation (and isn't $50 or $100 cheaper in a few days)!

Yes, I agree. My 1800FP's are still holding me over quite well, and I cannot justify $700.00 for another 2" of screen real estate.

SWEET!!
I've been drooling over these for years, have a bunch at work and have been waiting for the price to drop.
Assuming I get the 3% cash back from chubby billfold total cost will be about $720 'cuz of VA tax

Not bad for a kick butt monitor.

Apparently, mathematical skills are seldom taught (or understood) these days.

Based on a 18.1" diagonal of the 1801FP and the 20.1" diagonal of the 2001FP, the actual difference in square inches is 36.672 (193.9248 in^2 [2001FP] - 157.2528 in^2 [1801FP]) . John was least incorrect, as there is a 2" difference in diagonal measurement, of course.

Proof that size does indeed matter - in so far as intellect is concerned, at least.
