Is it safe to buy these off of Ebay?

The going rate for the exact same model in this deal is $300 +/- $20

Sellers are claiming brand new units, w 2 year warranties and a extra battery.

Don't see where they are getting theirs and selling them for so cheap.

Man! This is an awesome deal, too bad I bought mine already a few months back. The Axim X50V is HOT. I use it as an ipod replacement(to listen to mp3's, read ebooks, etc.), along with planning.

I was wondering the same thing.

Or are there any current hot deals on the x50v?

eBay looks like a good deal but I would be concerned about the warranty, is it transferrable?

Good question. I seem to recall seeing in the 24" LCD thread that the Dell warranty is not transferrable.

Correct Dell LCD warranties are not transferrable. So if you buy a Dell LCD off eBay, you could get screwed if you need warranty assistance

It looks like the Dell Axim is treated like a desktop or laptop assuming the previous owner transfers the warranty to you and you have the Dell service tag.

I got the 8/19 email, but then this morning I got an email saying my order shipped. Haven't been on to check to see if it all shipped, GPS included or not. This will be nice not to have to wait until 8/19. Hope everyone else received this email too.

My AXIM x50v recently shipped.

Now I need to decide between:

OCN5 or iGuidance, mostly for local in city driving.

Globalstat 338 or HAiCOM 405III?

Vent or windshield mount?

Dumb question, when you leave your car and take your Axim with you ... do you leave the windshield mount in it's place?

I'm paranoid that it may make our Honda Accord (#1 stolen car in America) even more appealing to car prowlers.

I have some questions:

Is the gps built in or come with an add-in card(sd or cf)?

What's all this talk about the software for the gps, does it not come with the pda or is it bad, and which one are most of you guys using?

Are the rhinoskin's worth the price, are they heavy, and what's the difference between the rhinoskin and the aluminum case with extra battery support?

And finally, are there any good deals on the pda right now?

Very few common/more popular PocketPCs do not have GPS built-in (so far). GPS functionality is usually added via the sync port on the bottom, or via CF card.

The Dell GPS is bluetooth. There are no cables between it and the Axim. It does come with a cigarette lighter charger that will power and charge both the Axim and the GPS unit.

I think mscdex0 mispoke, or I misread what he wrote. Actually, very few pocket PCs come with GPS built in. Normally you have to connect the pocket pc to an external GPS. This usually done through the sync port or a CF adapter, unless like the Axim X50v, the Pocket PC has bluetooth.

GPS is NOT built in, it's something you need to buy separately.

You can add GPS either via CF card or Bluetooth wireless. I chose Bluetooth.

If you have a PDA with Bluetooth I would recommend the Globalstat BT-338 or HAiCOM 405III both have the new Sirfstar III chipset and one or both are WAAS enabled.

What's all this talk about the software for the gps, does it not come with the pda or is it bad, and which one are most of you guys using?

Remember the PDA does not come with anything GPS unless you buy this in ADDITION to your Dell Axim PDA. So you need to buy the Dell Axim PDA and that GPS bundle.

OCN5 and iGuidance are the most popular for PDA GPS.

Here is a review of OCN5 and you can save $20 if you buy it soon.

And finally, are there any good deals on the pda right now?

Nope, you missed out on the hottest Axim deal of the year.

I would recommend visiting AximSite.com remember to use their SEARCH feature

Got mine, charged it up but I don't plan on using it a lot until I receive my screen protectors from ScreenGuardz.com

Well the only thing I have received is my GPS. The axim still says it's not shipping until 8/19/05 - Kinda lame, but for the price I guess I can deal with it.
