Does anyone know where to get inexpensive ram that works with the 1100? I heard the Centon sodimms that sometimes go on sale don't work with Dell laptops. Does Crucial work?

With these laptops zipping through the production stage I'm assuming they'll ship well before the estimated ship dates. Mine est ship date is the 19th but with it already in the boxing stage I would think it would ship earlier next week.

I'm going to chuck the 128mb RAM that comes with it and I want to put 512mb back in. Crucial has got 256MB DDR PC2100 at 49.99 x 2 = 99.98 Anybody else seen anything cheaper?

That's the best I've found so far but if you can get a $25 off 512MB Crucial coupon to work, you could get one stick for about $105. The only three types of memory that I've heard work so far in the 1100 are Crucial, Dell, and some Viking memory. I've been told PNY and Centon don't work (too bad because they go on sale often). I may just add 256 from Crucial fro 384 total. 64MB of that will be used for shared video so the total for the system will be 320MB (or 448MB if you get 512).

Ouch, 64MB just for the video? If you don't play games, can it be configured to use 16MB or less?

Ouch, 64MB just for the video? If you don't play games, can it be configured to use 16MB or less?

I think I may be wrong about that because when I check the system memory amount it shows 384MB (the full installed amount) and not 320MB that it would show if 64 were being shared by the onboard video.

One thing I noticed is that the mousepad seems very insensitive and you must push down hard to get it to move the pointer. I don't know if there's a way to adjust this. Overall it's a very good laptop though.

My Inspiron 5100 came the same way, there is a way to adjust that in the mouse settings under control panel, I don't remember where but there is a sensitivity setting in there that you adjust and it will take away the 100 lbs of force required to move the pointer around

I'M ALIVE!! Okay, I got some flame cause I blew my deal by calling last week. And yes, I deserved the razzing from you guys. But I just found out that, while they did cancel that original order, they re-entered the order that same day! So, I just found out that I have a laptop in the final stages of production that should ship in 2 days! It looks like Dell is willingingly and knowingly taking this hit in order to honor all these orders. That really says a lot about the company and I feel pretty good about the whole thing now. 'Course now I need some memory and a wireless card....

Great laptop for the $$! Get a 128 and 256MB dimm as 256 alone was a bit slow. The additional 128mb really helps.
