Also, there's not one store online that sells refills. As mush as I would like to buy this printer, the consumables would empty my pocket considering I print more in one day than most people print in a year.

Wow. Nice deal for a color laser. That review says its 1.5 cents per page B&W and 12.5 cents per color page. I wonder how much you pay for a similar color page on a typical inkjet.

Well, the tonor kit that comes with the printer prints 2000 pages black and 1000 color. My $30 black inkjet cart. from Epson runs about 280 pages..the $40 color runs about 200 pages...

The black toner kit from Dell is $45, the color is $65 apiece (I believe that they are ind. replaceable).

I jumped on this early this morning and got next day shipping free.

Lexmark makes these. The fact that you can buy the toner only from Dell kinda kills it for me. Check out the cnet video review. It almost dwarfed the reviewer - it will tower over my small office if I get it.

this is the price for a decent B&W laser - to get color and the cartridges at this price is smokin!! toner doesnt sound too bad, even if you have to buy from dell-take it from someone who just recently purchased two new drums and cartridges for two brother lasers, the MFC 6800 and the HL 1650

FWIW.

Inkjet color printer are capable of rendering excellent Glossy pictures by using the special Glossy paper that have a special (clay like) coating on it. The high definition of the color is achieved because the coating does not let the ink to soak into the paper.

This type of paper can not be used with laser printers. Laser printers fuses the Toner to the paper by using heating element before ejecting the paper out. This heating element will melt the coating of the Glossy and after few pages will damage the Laser printer.

As a result you can only use regular (bright white) paper with any of the regular color laser printer, and thus never achieve the High Color Definition printout of Inkjet.

If you need to print good quality color pictures Color laser is not up your ally.

Addendum.

If one needs to print reports and business brochures in color it is a Very Hot Deal.

The short come relates to High quality color Pictures and Artwork that are better served by the printing on Glossy Premium Inkjet paper.

I've been reading the thread over at f@tw@llet and it seems the 3100cn with 30% off could be a better deal in the long run due to the fact it ships with 4k cartridges instead of 2k ones. Also the consumables seem to be priced better for the 4k ones if I am reading everything over there correctly. Thread
