the bazel looks the same. Main difference is that the base is more angular on the 1905.

The 1905 is a bit brighter than the 1901. The color carries more blue on the 1901 and more green on the 1905. I guess if you have a photo calibration unit, you can match the color..... I don't have some thing like that.

i'm not sure why my order is taking so long. i ordered the 1905 on monday (10/11) like others did, but it's still showing stuck in production, while others have already received their monitors. i just called dell and they said it's now estimated to ship on monday (although the estimated ship date on the website is still showing 11/2) and they've upgraded the shipping to next day delivery. maybe they ran out of their stock and needed to import more from overseas (i'm assuming these are made in asia somewhere).

Got the 1905FP, it looks great, but came with 3 dead pixels, so i need to decide if i'm keeping it. Otherwise the colors look a little washed out but that could be b/c i don't really know how to adjust the settings.

sounds like we're in the same position. when i spoke with dell on friday they said the monitor should ship out today (10/18) but we'll just have to wait and see. since these things are no doubt manufactured overseas, it could be the dell is just waiting for the next shipment to come into the states.

I didn't really need an LCD (still loving my 955DF) but had to use the new $750 off coupon so I ordered the 1901FP (they'll ship the 1905FP) alongside an Inspiron 1150. Will auction off the laptop and keep my new sub-$300 LCD.

Gotta love the portrait mode.

this is a little nutty. my order from 10/11 is still showing as stuck in production. i called dell and they said there is a huge backlog of backorders for the 1905. if you're still waiting, you might want to give dell customer service a call. they gave me a $75 coupon for my troubles, which is nice. but i'd like to eventually get my monitor!

sorry for not responding to this thread, I was responding to the other newer one.

I got mine on the 20th, but it was defective I guess. I had VERY BAD ghosting effects apparent even with the mouse cursor. I returned the monitor today, and will be receiving a new 2001FP instead. After the ghosting with the 1905FP I didn't want to chance it again and stuck with the 16ms 2001FP.

Wish the 1905FP would've worked out as it was beautiful otherwise and had no stuck pixels whatsoever.

It did take almost 7 days to go through "In Production" so hopefully you'll get yours ASAP.

edit:

Anyone have any coupon codes for Dell ? I lost my catalog and they wouldn't let me use the $70 off of $525 or the previous ones even though I ordered when they were still valid.

Interitus and i chatted, my 1905FP had NO ghosting whatever and looks great, so i think he did get a lemon (Int, you should try to get that $75 credit!). I wouldn't panic about the 20ms being a problem, i don't think it makes a difference for gaming. I also have the XPS and it the 1905 looks great with my rig.

I've been arguing with Dell for hours...

They won't apply a coupon to an already existing order...on top of that they didn't even credit me the $45 off of $400 I used on the 1905FP...

I swear...this company has gone DOWN..HILL...for the last 2-3 years...Their support lines are a pain in the arse, I've been redirected 40 times already, hung up on half of those, and on top of that I can't get someone who speaks english. Argh.

my 1905 lcd monitor order from 10/11 is STILL showing as in production. maybe they figured they could bump me down on the priority list since they gave me a coupon? argh. i'll give it another few days before calling them again.

It's down to $636.75 now.
Edit: Plus $33 shipping. I forgot Dell actually charges shipping sometimes.

I'd like to chime in, I just got my 1905FP from the deal a few days ago, although when ordered it was the 1901fp. In any event, the first thing that's impressive about this monitor is the contrast. I've seen many newer LCD's and even compared to my OLDER DELL 1703 350:1 contrast, there is some really nice improvements. Mostly, the colors are much more vibrant, they almost add new shades to the colors which you've never seen before its very odd but looks great. The other part is the Dark levels, when playing DOOM3 the game was literally 3-4x more enjoyable, the blacks where so super that the shadow details looked jaw dropping, I actually had to pause for a second because compared to older LCD's which to me had a "washed out" type look to them mainly in games , this is no longer the case. Again, gaming is amazing with this monitor the colors and black levels will show you things you've never seen before long as you've been already using a lower contrast LCD. Now , the only downside to this monitor as one user stated is the color scheme is a bit different, the stock color needs to be adjusted because its (SRGB) so that's certainly needs to be adjusted asap or you're not going enjoy the image too much in windows desktop doing daily tasks. Second, the greens are a bit higher on this and I'm still figured on how to adjust this but again these are minor issues nothing big. Also, This game didn't ghost with DOOM3 or Max Payne 2 in ANALOG, although there was ghosting in COUNTER STRIKE (half life source edition). Enable DVI, and it appears to be gone.. so that should give some tips to the other user above..

Overall rating

8.7/10

After a bit more testing, It certainly is clear the contrast is above any LCD I've seen before. Although, I would also like to state (its only fair) that I am finding out that this monitor is giving some signs of eye fatigue. Actually, I'm experiencing a bit of the same eye and tiredness I'd get with CRT's or DLP's. Obviously, with any new viewing screen your eyes can get some adjustment although without a doubt I do have a small amount of extra fatigue due to this monitor and its high contrast ratio!

:/

I think this monitor is great, but i actually didn't like the blacks in Doom3, they seemed washed out. Maybe i don't have the settings right (i turned up the brightness a bit b/c the damm game is so dark) Ii'm running it in native, with DVI, ultra high settings, no AA.

hey stonep.

i have a question for you. Does this LCD (1905) have one of those plexiglass type covers over the LCD? I'm talking about something like they have on a lot of Sony 17" and 19" LCDs (when they have trubrite technology). A lot of new laptops will have this plastic cover on the LCD which makes everything look bolder/clearer/sharper.

Can you let me know? Thanks.

Wow I don't understand why some of your orders are taking too long

maybe they're fulfilling the notebook + lcd orders first ?

I already received my 2 1905's and it's time to get rid of em .

nope, it does not.

After using this monitor for a week now, I have to admit the colors are amazing, but the BLACK levels and details anytime there is black is simply amazing, I don't honestly think there is many other LCD's out there atleast in this near price range, EVEN the new sony, that can get this type of BLACK levels its really something amazing for LCD, usually only CRT or DLP can get this type of contrast.

I ordered mine about two weeks ago. Got it in 6 business days due to the carrier not delivering on Saturday. This monitor is truly incredible. Short of spending at least $1200 nothing comes close. The screen size is great and the colors are very vibrant. I have played several of my games on it. It is great for games or anything for that matter. It is a super deal if you need a monitor. This is the next level in displays. Mine is absolutely perfect. I'm excited to use my computer again.
