this is the best price i've ever seen on this monitor. sure, Dell regularly offers it at the same price (usually w/ free shipping too), but Dell charges sales tax in most states (making the final price ~$330), while newegg only charges sales tax in a select few states...so most folks can have this monitor for ~$300 through newegg when all is said and done...

Dell U2412M @ newegg
regular price: $329.99 shipped
price after promo code: $299.99 shipped
promo code: EMCNENB26 (expires 5/9/12)

get 'em while they're still in stock!

Fact: Every state that has a sales tax has a use tax legally requiring you to pay the sales tax on the item on your income taxes. So there is no 'tax free' option legally.

And he didn't say there was.

Yes, he did. He listed one option as the least expensive, $300 "after all is said and done" by not paying any tax, compared to the other where you do pay tax.

How is it for gaming/fast motion? My old BenQ FP241W is starting to go belly-up and I could use a new monitor, but I've heard IPS panels aren't as good for gaming as TN panels. Is the 60 Hz an issue in these days of 120 Hz panels?

I didn't notice any issues gaming going from my FP241W to my HP IPS.

yeah, i didn't get into the legality of it b/c most people don't report to the IRS the dollar amount of all they might have purchased online at newegg...and most folks know its illegal if they're in a state that has a sales tax, but they do it anyways b/c it isn't enforced. that being said, by posting this hot deal, i'm not condoning not paying sales tax or not reporting to the IRS sales tax-free purchases made in a state that has a sales tax...

Looks pretty acceptable to me. 120Hz only matters if you want 3D, and if your Benq is a TN, then the difference will be night and day in favor of this Dell.

Fact: that's threadcrapping. If you want to report the post you could. Otherwise keep it out of here.

I believe this monitor comes with hdmi-dvi adapter, so you should be able to use hdmi port on your laptop.

The FP241W isn't a TN panel, its a PVA.

Thanks. Didn't know anything about that particular model.

Gaming-wise, eIPS should actually be an improvement, then.

Decent deal but I always advocate finding a seller on ebay and put an offer in on two of them around $270 each. Cheaper, tax free, and always available.

Sorry for cluttering up the forum, but isn't there also a "safe harbor amount" that you can pay so you don't have to worry about this unless you make large (>1k) purchases?

Back on topic, I was seriously considering one of these before the korean IPS explosion happened. IIRC it has great response time and low input lag, which makes me This is a great deal from a reputable seller.

Yeah, that was my mistake, thought it was a TN. I may have to bite the bullet on this deal; looks like it's a good all-arounder.

Mistake? The FP241W was and is an amazing monitor. I gave mine away only cause it developed image burn in. I could of had it fixed under warranty if I had paid attention and realized it was a 3 year warranty and not a 1 year. My monitor is on ebay at good prices also, with warranties.

I thought this only happened with Plasma TVs...

The FP241W, like almost all PVA panels, has the typical advantages of the best contrast ratio, high quality paneling (very little backlight bleed, which also boost contrast), good viewing angles (there is a small shift in colors at very wide angles), and good image accuracy. The main disadvantage is the extremely high input lag, which limits its gaming ability.

The U2412M has great contrast ratio, decent quality paneling (good for the most part, but there have been cases of very noticeable backlight bleed), excellent viewing angles, and very good image accuracy. Input lag is well controlled and on par with last gen 1080p TN panels, so it's more than adequate even for most FPS and racing games. Basically, it's a jack-of-all-trades, especially given the good pricing.

Just thought I'd put this up for people looking to change their VA panel monitors.

I have never seen it happen on any LCD I have owned except for the Benq. If you left open even a webpage for a while, after you closed it you would see certain things on the desktop. Even wallpapers would do it. I don't know if image burnin is the accurate way to describe it, but it was some kind of issue. It had both temporary image issues and some that wouldn't go away.

If I used just a green desktop color, no wallpaper, you would see dark areas. If you did white, you saw nothing. Gray was also one of those colors that showed the dark spots.

No, I meant it was my mistake calling the FP241W a TN panel earlier when it's a PVA. It's been an absolutely sensational monitor, but mine's developed some vertical burn in near the center of the screen that's getting pretty distracting. It's a shame; I've had it for over 5 years and it's just been awesome. But it's probably time to move on.

Gotcha, ironic you also got the burnin thing. At least it makes me know I wasn't losing my marbles. You could always look into the ZR24W also. I did get mine off ebay from an authorized seller.

I'd really like to get one of these, but if I got one I'd want three...which makes it too expensive.
