I got one of these (very cool)...if you don't have a MC, head over to t*chbargains and you'll find another code you can use.

I just got mine yesterday. Haven't had time to install it yet, but at $38 shipped, I can't complain at all. BTW.. I was able to use the MC Exclusives deal to get the 10% off. I didn't even look to see if it was a Geek special or not at the time of ordering. All I know is that it took the discount off of the price and made the Digital Doc about $32 plus change.

BTW.. I just checked the site. Where does it say Geek Special? Your MC Exclusives deal should be working. I'd call back or write them and have your credit card credited.

Here's what my invoice says.. No mention of the discount, but it had to have been working to get that price.

DigitalDoc 5 Thermal Sensor, Fan & Voltage Drive Bay Monitor 1 $32.40
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Subtotal: $32.40
Sales Tax: $0.00
Shipping: $6.00

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grand Total: $38.40

Just to let you know, I used a Master Card to place the order.

Sorry for posting again so soon, but I have a question about the digital doc 5.

I looked through the packaging and it looks like something on the corners of the display are peeled up. Do they put some sort of clear covering over the display to protect it? If not, I have a display that is peeling.

this product is good now if when your pc got hot you can have the product control it that would be even better but with this product it only informs you and beeps when your cpu or whatever is getting HOT

There's a film covering the display (to protect it durring shipping/stocking). Pretty much the same thing that's on Every LCD screen (that I've seen) when bought new.

I ordered on 1/23 and received on 1/31 - not to bad of a turn-around (UPS had me freaking a little.. the tracking updates didn't post till early this morning for some weird reason... used 2 different computers to check that too).

And contrary to the previous post - this thing can be programmed to turn the fans off and on according to temps from the sensors. Something gets hot, and a fan turns on... kinda the whole premis behind the unit in the first place.

Heh.. looks really good in black too BTW (vinyl dye ROCKS)

sweet! I've been tossing the idea of getting one of these for a while, and this deal was the deciding factor.

32.40 for dig doc w/discount
6.00 ups ground shipping
--------------------
38.40 shipped

I don't know anything about a mastercard discount or what not (especially since i don't have one of those "cards"), but if you checkout techb@rg@ins they have an exclusive coupon for 10% off.

phew, glad i got in on this deal before the anandtech effect happened--out of stock
Great lil util and i think you can use a HD in it's bay too so you wont need an "empty" bay unless they're all filled w/ CD-Xs. cant wait till monday when it comes

doubt it but has anyone made a mod for this which allows it to turn off the computer after it has reached x temp for y seconds/minutes?

lawicd - I'm not sure, but my impression is that DD5 doesn't operate a timing system. You could set it up to shut down when temps hit X - just no time varient. Actually, I think there are a few different Mobos out there that do the same thing with their built in sensors... (wouldn't know, my last board was unmarked and plucked from a Government trashcan...)

Then again, I'm sure there's some sort of simple timer system that you could put in-line... As long as it kept getting a signal from the DD5, it's timer would count to the predefined setting at which time it'd open the path for the shut-down.

Yeah, there is a protective film. It would be nice though if you could set it to turn all the fans on before sounding the alarm...it's sooo annoying to have it wake up up @ 5am because 1 fan is overheating & none of the others are on, and all I have to do is press the "FORCE" button.....couldn't it do this automatically?
