I do similar thing when grilling my hotdogs by slicing them with knife. Turning constantly is key, so they're cooked without drying, and I like mine slightly crispy. Some onions, ketchup, relish, spicy mustard OR Sriracha and BAM!
That would be wonderful if you were eating them plain and dipping them into your toppings. But for a dog on a bun, jezus... if you have trouble putting condiments on the damned thing as it is, you shouldn't be permitted to feed yourself.
and it cooks the hot dog more fully. But again, it just sounds like it would dry the dog out too much.
I won't ever eat another hot dog without ketchup. I've always eaten it that way, and enjoyed it in other ways, too. But ever since I found out that there is an insane faction of society that gets their panties into a royal wad at the thought of ketchup on a dog, I made a solemn oath to annoy them at every opportunity. Delicious!
