Hi guys, i need your helppppppppppp!!
I just bought from eWiz a venice 3200 stepping e3 about 3 weeks ago, it is an OEM and by what i read is one that is really good to OC (even though, i still have to learn how to do).
I ordered this 165 last night (about 8 hours ago).
But now i read this posting by a guy at slickdeals.net:
"(added to help people searching: opteron 165 oem is part # OSA165DAA6CD )
For the people so quickly saying they will do 2.6 easily - don't be so sure. Early batches did that, doesn't mean current ones will. Monarch has VERY fresh stock as they were completely out until just recently.
I have a x2 3800 that I got from an earlier Dell deal and with a good quality overclocking mobo (tforce) I am able to get 2.6ghz with 1.45 volts. But countless others are stuck at 2.5ghz and for me to get 2.7ghz I have to put in more voltage and get more heat than I am willing to deal with.
Don't expect more than 2.4ghz and be thrilled with even 2.5ghz.
The extra transistors to make the 2x1meg cache will actually hold you back, not help you, heat-wise.
Applications like encoding, benchmarks like superpi, etc could care less about the extra 512kb cache - it's core ghz rate that matters in those cases. Most reviewers admit it's only good for 3-5% boost.
Last but not least, remember it's oem warranty, 30 days."
What is your take, is it worth?? I will ebay my venice 3200 if it is.
Please give me your opinion. I could call Monarch to ask, but what should i ask? What stepping? CAB... something??
