I wanna buy this but I still have a tracfone with almost 300 minutes on it(good until sept 02), should I get it? Basically the deal is buy the phone for about $45(with shipping) which includes a $25 airtime card, and a rebate for a free $25 card, plus a $50 cash rebate, right?

Interesting that they slashed their ebates rebate. Not surprising, I guess. I added them to my "favorites" list and it still says 8% there .

wiredspider,

If you search Phoneshark, you will see 1% rebate. However after click the phoneshark's icon, I still see 8% rebate.

The following comments are just my own opinions.

Pro
1. I called PhoneShark to inquiry about coverage area and I was very happy with the help provided.
2. PhoneShark provided timely email messages and the phone didn't take long to be delivered.
3. The AT&T CSR was extremely helpful in getting my phone activated.
4. I also called Nokia to clear up the terms on the rebate and again I was helped in a professional manner.

Con
1. After attaching the charger, at times I was uncertain if the phone was being charged.
2. The headset is a joke. How does one use it correctly? I'm dumb and would like pictures, please.
3. I can't operate the top on/off button with any finger except my pinkie or a something with a point.

Providing the rebate check (10 weeks) come through and with 142 free minutes, I give this deal a high thumb ups.

AT&T prepaid is ok...i've had them for over a year now, the 90 day to 45 days expiration is rather frustrating..but what do you expect, AT&T is raising prices for all their services across the board practically, no matter phone service, broadband, wireless ,etc.

For the $16 something a month if you renew with $25 cards, it's an ok deal. If I was on a plan I would be paying at minimum $20/month before taxes, but if the taxes are added in (around $3 total I think?) it's a pretty good deal for those that don't use the phone too much. I also like it because AT&T has a very large coverage area in the midwest, and having the Nokia jump onto different networks is definitely a plus (the only times I've seen no service on my phone was briefly while in the Ozarks, but that is understandable). Oh, I also saw no service in south dakota's black hills, but hey..that's also understandable. For my home calling area there are no dead spots for miles so it's just fine anyways. I have never been disconnected from a call either..which is awesome.

The last time I renewed the phone tho was a bit of a hassle, since the automated credit card over the phone thing didn't work...then I got dumped over to a rep, who charged me another $25 afterwards, and gave me the minutes. Luckily I never saw the charge go through for the automated system (I did see a charge for a couple days but it dropped off the bill, I think it was just an AUTH charge)

AT&T is not raising their prices on normal cellular. The package prices have remained constant and the number of minutes you get has gone up. It's just prepaid that they are making less attractive by shortening the life of your minutes. Maybe it was taking too big a bite out of their conventional celluar business. Of course, there is also much less competition in prepaid than in conventional cellular.

This was mentioned earlier in the thread but is worth mentioning again...

U can re-up your minutes by signup with ecallplus.com and get free nationwide long distance and free international calls to certain countries for as low as 25c a minute....

They also have a 20$ card that is good for 3 months... This makes the phone only 6.67 a month for limited use!

I think it costs about 15$ to get your phone switched to ecallplus service from ATT... (it only works with ATT phones)

Anyone no of any other good deals?

I highly recommend getting a lithium battery, it makes the phone much lighter and slimmer (same talk time).

Incidentally

Anyone wants to buy the AT&T $25 cards for 20% off, PM me. I have 4 extras that I won't need.
Or buy all 4 for $75 (25% off).

Can we buy other prepaid card on phonesharks.com when the $25 one is used up? I saw some that has 3.7 cents per minute so it's not bad at all. Or is it possible to switch to a regular plan with this phone?

FastFurious, You have to buy the AT&T prepaid cards, not just any old phone cards. I believe it is possible to switch to another AT&T plan. If you wanted to switch to another network, you would need to flash the phone.

I ordered two of these phones back on Feb 04, 2002 and purchased them using ebates. (8%)
Got both phones and activated them.

Did anyone else use ebates?
If so, was your ebates accounted credited?

Looks like this deal is still good until April 20.
Has anyone received the free $25 phone card rebate yet?
How about the $50 rebate?

If yes, how long did it take?
I'm just curious whether it's possible to get the rebate without having to purchase additional airtime since the rebate specifically says the phone needs to be active when the rebate is processed (which is presumably 10-weeks later).
