I'm just a 22-year old college guy. What I find completely moronic is that no one is looking at the issues. I've watched all three debates. Sure Gore seems to lack personality, but he's right on the issues for lower and middle class America. As for Bush, he seems like a nice guy, but extrememly stupid. He didn't ever answer a question. He would just sympathize with the people's problems. That was it. He talks about changes, but doesn't know how to change it. I don't believe our country should bow down further to the rich bitch oil companies he represents. We are already paying at the pump. I guess I would now be called a Gore supporter. Just wanted to throw another opinion to the pot. I think it is really lame that people don't vote. Pick the best candidate, whoever it is. It takes very little effort. People in this country don't realize just how lucky we are to have a choice. By not voting this not only makes are country look bad to the rest of the world, but it makes the people that don't vote seem lazy and stupid. Go vote for whoever and quit bitching. You owe it to yourself and your country.

Michael Moore has said some cool stuff about the whole election process this year. Not was he the creator of "Roger and Me" and "The Big One" (both excellent rentals) and the mind behind "TV Nation" and "The Real Truth", he also directed the last two RATM videos including the video "Testify" mentioned above. And he's a Nader supporter.

Check out his website. Dude speaks the truth.

I was considering voting for Nader, but I have to be realistic, its going to be a tight race, and I really couldnt stomach 4 years of W, so I'll be voting for Gore.

If you are informed on the issues and of voting age, by all means do so! But I think not voting is preferable to uninformed/haphazard voting.

If you don't want big oil and prices to keep rising... don't vote for Gore. He wants big oil. He is in favor of a Energy Tax. He put restictions on refining oil which makes it cost more. He is the one who doesn't want to drill off shore and in Alaska. He helped make us dependant on other countries for oil. All of this is in His book that he wrote. He is isn't touting his book and ideas on high gas prices right now because oil prices are high and he wants to win. He had the idea to release barrels from the Stategic Oil reserve to lower prices... kind of ironic since he wants prices to be high. The Oil reserve is for crisis during WAR, not to get a better rating in election polls. The barrels didn't help anyways. Notice the prices went back up.

So true. Gore wrote in his book that he thought gas prices SHOULD go to $2.00 a gallon, as this would FORCE people to use less gas. If you like high gas prices now, wait until he's president.

And all of the rhetoric that Gore spouts off about changes, what has his administration been doing for the last 8 years? They've been riding this wonderful economic boom that our country has been experiencing, which started prior to this administration, but which they would like to take full credit for. Don't believe everything that you hear. It is an election year...

Thrifty rocker,
It's ok to spout party lines, but do the math yourself on Al's little plan to give free money to those who save a little. How is THAT going to be paid for? That all by itself is going to cost billions more than Al says, why? Because he UNDERESTIMATES how many people are going to take advantage of it. EVERYONE will. It's basically free money (if you qualify.)

As far as all the numbers being bandied about on Social Security solvency...who is getting their numbers from the Citizens for Tax Justice? Now, that is an unbiased third party group if I ever saw one. Do the math for yourself.

Check these out: Who hasn't Gore promised something to--there's no way he can deliver...that's not partisan rhetoric..that's just economic fact. How many #1 priorities can there be? A bunch if you're Al Gore.

?I would ? my first act as president ? if I'm entrusted with the job ? will be to resubmit the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty to the Senate.? ? Al Gore, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, March 14, 2000

He said Bradley has no comprehensive education plan. ?It is not a priority in his campaign or in his platform. It is the No. 1 priority for me,? said Gore, who pitched his 10-year, $115 billion investment in school modernization, college-tuition aid, and teacher training. ? Associated Press, February 4, 2000

??I believe it is time to end racial profiling in America,? he said. ?And that will be the first order of business of the Gore-Lieberman administration.?? ? Lawrence Knutson, ?Gore Courts Black Support,? Associated Press, September 16, 2000

?I make you this pledge today: If you elect me as your president, the McCain-Feingold bill will be the first domestic legislation I send to the Congress ? on my first day in office.? ? Al Gore, ?Remarks as Prepared for Delivery by Al Gore on Political and Campaign Reform,? Gore 2000 Website, March 27, 2000

?I?ll fight for tax cuts that go to the right people.? ? Al Gore, Speech to the Democratic National Convention, August 17, 2000

?I will fight for a prescription-drug benefit for all seniors under Medicare.? ? Ibid.

?I will fight to rebuild and modernize our crumbling schools, and reduce class size. We need to put safety, discipline, and character first in every classroom.? ? Ibid.

?I will fight for a real, enforceable Patients' Bill of Rights.? ? Ibid.

?We will fight for affordable health care for all.? ? Ibid.

?I will fight for the single greatest commitment to education since the G.I. Bill.? ? Ibid.

?I will fight for a targeted, affordable tax cut to help working families save and pay for college.? ? Ibid.

?I'll fight for a new, tax-free way to help you save and build a bigger nest egg for your retirement.? ? Ibid.

?So I say to you tonight: If you entrust me with the presidency, I will fight for you.? ? Ibid.

?We will?fight for an equal day?s pay for an equal day's work.? ? Ibid.

?I?ll fight to add another 50,000 new police.? ? Ibid.

?I will fight for a crime victims? bill of rights.? ? Ibid.

?I?ll fight to toughen penalties on those who misuse the Internet.? ? Ibid.

?I?ll fight to make every school in this nation drug-free and gun-free.? ? Ibid.

It's unbelieveable what people will believe these days...

As for Bush and internet taxes, please....please don't vote that is. You're a moron if you believe that.

Nader? He's so far left as to be almost inconceivable.

I'm voting Bush because I believe it's the right thing to do.

Both Gore and Bush are hypocritical liars, which is why Harry Browne will get my vote for the second presidential election in a row.

They should really sit down and read the Constitution before they start promising everyone everything.

But, for the love of God, DON'T vote for Nader. If he gets ANY credibility from this election, he may one day get into office. Then we may all wind up walking to work, rationing shower water, etc...

BTW, yes the economic upturn began before Clinton took office, but his tax increase/policy did NOT plunge us back into recession, as was so widely predicted by the right. And, it can also be said, the economic upturn of the 80's started before Reagan took office.

In fact, nothing is more responsible for the bull economy of the past 8 or so years, as is the gridlock of a Democratic president and Republican congress. Neither side got any major legislating done, and that is great.

BTW, a little fact: the republican congress has outspent the democratic congress of recent years, with more spent each year. Pork is not a democrat thing, it is a politician thing.

On to SSI. Neither plan will fix it. Mainly because, as both Harry Browne and economic professor/commentator Walter Williams have noted, there IS NO SURPLUS. And, we can not accurately forecast if there ever will be one.
Each plan depends on these phantom surplus SSIrevenues to shore up the shortfall in general revenues. But, recession could be around the corner, and revenues could drop out the bottom next year. (Most of the projected surplus comes at the END of the 10 year pprojection)Meanwhile, the US debt
continues to grow.

Anyway, that's my little rant, and aome of the reasons I am a libertarian.
I hope one day, many of you will be also.

Argonaunt,

I found them on another site. I only post them because they can be verified either from the original source cited or from something AlGore said in the debate(s).

BTW, Dirk,

I agree about the pork issue. It really pisses me off that politicians(all of them)just love to spend our money. And they love to give themselves pay raises. I think they ought to make
the average salary of the average American, then no one would run for office just for the money. I say term limit all the bastards. We have effectively term-limited the President so why not Congress? Amendment anyone?

If any of you here are worried about on-line privacy, data mining, tech issues, etc., there is really only one person to vote for, Nader. I really feal he has been cheated big time by the corporate America news industry, and you might want to ask yourself why. All he has asked to do was to be given the chance to debate with the other candidates, but each and every TV news station refused to let him join in. They (corporatations) are protecting their own interests because Nader is a full supporter of reforming the way the political system works as to having corporations donating money and giving the rights back to the people and taking away some of the power the corporations have.

even if the green party manages to achieve 5% of the vote, it wont encourage the development of a "three party system" due to the fact that our system is winner-take-all. Its going to be rep/demo until another party can replace one of the two.

here's my vote for a parliament.

I like Jesse Ventura's comment on Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher - How about we get rid of parties altogether, and candidates run on their own merit? He mentioned a representative in Minnesota who decided to quit politics after her first term. She was tired of being forced to vote along party lines. The power struggle between democrats and republicans makes it impossible for politicians to actually think for themselves. I seriously doubt it would ever happen, but in a perfect world....

I think we have the finest government that money can buy!

I always vote. I figure that if I choose not to vote, then I have no right to expect anybody else to take my complaints seriously.

Here's the link for this hot deal:

Harry Browne - Libertarian for President

The Democrats and Republicans want to convince you that a third party vote is a wasted vote. Actually, the only wasted vote is a vote not cast. And, IMHO, a vote for bigger government (either of the 2 big parties) is worse than a wasted vote, since you are simply endorsing what they are doing. If you want small government, the ONLY choice we currently have is to vote Libertarian.

Did you all actually read that voting Article at Discover link in the 3rd or 4th post? I personally was intrigued by the idea of using an approval vote to vote for candidates of office. That actually does have the potential to allow for anyone of any party (or of none) to have a legitamate chance of winning.

I've got to say... it certainly is something to think about. I'd definitely like to see the debate of reforming our voting system enter more into the public eye.

Oh, and if you're not going to vote anyway, send a vote over to the Libertarian guy. I doubt there's anyone that will do more for freedom than he will, and if you're willing to be responsible with your freedom, there's nothing better.

Every always says theres only two choices !:| God damn I hate when people say that the only reason there are only two choices are because people think that, if no one thought and voted for whoever they wanted (even themselves hehe) and if that person that they voted for, say someone like Nader, Buchanen, or even Harry Browne, got 10% vote he or his party will get government funds to run the next election year and hey they might do good. !

Re : A vote for nader won't sway the vote for your state...

Think again. Here in WI... Gore and Bush are tied with 48-49%, nader has 3-4%.

If nader was not in the election, they would vote for gore... (Similar interests, etc)

The people voting for nader may put bush in the office. The same guy that screwed up texas schools... amoung other things.
