Just picked one up in-store. They gave me the $20 and $50 at the register no problem. Just connected this thing, so far so good and you can get generic ink for it too. Good deal........

I don't know why, but, this thread the poster deleted about the same deal.

Anyway, didn't feel like retyping my comment, so had to search for it...

Considering I just spent $60 on new carts, for that model, it's a great price. Even if they are 'economy' carts to begin with. I have the CX5200 (same print engine, but /w scanner also) and it prints out ok. The resolution is nice but the color quality leaves much to be desired. Someone said you need to print on matte paper instead of glossy to get best results... and it looks like the colors are a little better on matte but still not as good as I've seen on other 'photo'printers.

Also, refills require a special chip to reset the cartridge. And the ink is a pigmented ink so you can't just use normal refills, has to be a special ink as well... I verfied this as I had already purchased a refill kit for another printer and called the ink co to see if I could use it in this printer and they said it wasn't compatible. I also confirmed that on numerous internet sites. If you try it anyway, the two inks well combine (supposedly) and clog the heads. At $29 for the printer it's probably not a bad gamble, but, the CX5200 was more like $140 when I got it, so, not willing to test it myself.

Actually in some areas the pricing was even better. At the South Austin store the price was $59.99 - 50 - 20... which makes you get $10 back after rebates. Unfortunately the printers sold out within the first hours of the store opening.

The reason you don't get a true photo out of this printer is because it only uses a 4 color system instead of the photo printers 6 color system that gives you better shadows and skin tones. I've had my c82 for 6 months already and you CAN get great photos with just the 4 color system, look at the Canon i850 & i550. Both of those use the 4 color system, but also lack a lot when printing night shots because you get a brown color instead of a true black. I've printed out numerous night shots on my c82 and I don't get the same effect with the Epsons as much as you do with the Canon printers.

Also with the chip reader embedded on the printer it actually checks which kind of ink cartridge you are using & keeps track of the info. By doing that Epson makes it to where if you use non-genuine ink catridges you void the warrenty completely that you got with the printer. Just an FYI for those that plan on using "economy" ink with their printers.

This is a very good deal. Our family actually has two of the c80s, so I can only assume that this model is even better.

I'm aware of that (but I didn't mention it).... my point is (and I wasn't clear) that the 5770x1460 resolution isn't all that impressive for photo's. I can still make out dots in the photo's--maybe they are simply poor dithering, etc, but it just doesn't print as good of a photo as I've seen on other / less resolution printers such as HP. Even 4 color ones.

I've managed to fiddle with the settings and get good results, but, it took a lot of trial / error to get the colors just right and the noise to a minimum. My family was happy to get the photo's we printed and had no issues with the prints. If you are looking primarilly for a 'photo' printer this probably is not the best choice... don't let the resolution suck you in. If you want a really good printer for the price, I doubt this deal can be beat.

$10.98 each for the three color cartridges. $31.97 for the black cartridge. "Volume discount available". Those are OfficeDepot's prices -- a decent place to buy manufacturer cartridges with a coupon IMO. $60+ to replace all the cartridges seems pretty steep to me. According to Tom's Hardware Review, though, it ranks pretty well in terms of cost-per-page.

If it comes with ink, it's a good deal from the perspective of the ink costs alone. If you get the rebates and throw away the printer after the ink cartridges run out, you still got a decent deal on OEM ink.

I ordered one yesterday and got the following email today. Does it mean i am not going to get one. If they get it in store when the rebates dates have expired, would i still be eligible for the rebates?

Well, for me, this fell into just the right price. If anyone else has purchased, be aware the $50 BB rebate must be post marked by 8/26 and the $20 rebate by 10/31.

I've already been happy with the color photographs I printed. I also printed some iron on transfers for clothes and they turned out nicely as well.

I'll enjoy the color while it lasts...

This may be a dumb question, but how does this printer compare to the Canon i320 that's been going around in the $30 range lately? I would assume this Epson is better (because the retail price is higher), but has anyone done any sort of comparison?

Too bad there is so many rebates. Otherwise, I'd just buy the printer, keep the catridges and either sell the empty printer or throw it out.

I just bought one from Outpost.com at $40. +SH AR. Great deal on a printer that's more than enough for my needs.

This is a decent printer, but noisy as hell!
Only reason I replaced my Epson 880 was because the C82 silver & black matches the rest of my computer peripherals.
Actually the 880 was a lot more refined.
