[NOTE: Someone just spotted a *$40* coupon for today (Tuesday), bringing the price $5 less than I've listed below -- Adam]

The diminutive but very cool Canon Powershot S400 camera is available from Dell.com (Home) for a total price $381.37. Shipping is free. Most folks won't have to pay sales tax. And this is a sweet little camera... I already got one, and really love it. You're welcome to check out pictures I've taken with it (see the Canon folder, and also the dance/litp gallery).

Here's how it works:

Dell usual price: $499.00
Dell 15% off sale: $424.15
Dell $35 off coupon: $389.15 (this coupon expires TODAY, Monday April 21)
Ebates 2% cash back: $381.37

[Note that I earlier attempted to post an ebates referral code, which I learned is a no-no here. Sign up for Ebates directly at ebates.com]

I personally achieved this checkout price from Dell.com at 4:17pm PST, Monday April 21!

DELIVERY DELAY INFO: Dell's software/peripheral delivery promises are generally not to be believed. Only order from Dell if you don't mind being jerked around a bit on delivery times. However, from those who have been patient, you WILL get a new and USA-warrantied camera, and little if any hassles (or restocking fees) if you choose to return or exchange the product.

you're talking about Dell Home, right?

isn't the 10% off code expired?

I don't believe there was a stackable 10% code to begin with in Dell HOME, since that code I believe was in Dell SB. Secondly, the sale is 15% off, not 25%. Lastly...not sure how the mods will look upon that eBates referral link in your post - you might want to check with them on that.

Hi there,

The info I've presented is from the recent 'testimonial' of a fellow on the dpreview.com forum (canon section) who quoted the price he was charged THIS AFTERNOON, and using specifically the coupon I mentioned.

Therefore, I encourage you to please try this out (even if you do not finish your order) to verify what I have said.

I would not post without being sure of the numbers.

Oh, and Coraanu, glad you liked the cactus shot

Ah, okay, the moderator apparently did NOT like my ebates referral link. Oops!

So here are two non-referral links you can use:

- ebates
- Fat Wallet

Enjoy

Regards,
Adam

P.S. -- The fellow who ordered via Dell this afternoon told me that the shipping date he was quoted was May 3rd. Again, do take this with a grain of salt, though, since Dell.com has a bad track record of on-time shipments.

I found the post on DPreview. The coupon is for Dell Small Business, and after trying it for Dell Home as well I get the message that it is expired. Although the DPReview post says 25%, there is no 25% off ALL software & peripherals sale at Dell Small Business/Home. There is only a 15% off SP at Dell Home.

This is very strange, and embarrassing for my first post! :-(

As you can see, I was informed from this particular message

and since I had recently ordered an S400 from Dell for under $400 myself, I had no reason to suspect any problems.

Either the fellow who wrote the original post (referenced in the link above) was referring to a not-so-recent purchase OR the coupon expired in the last couple of hours.

In either case, I once again apologize for the mess, and welcome any mods to lock this thread if appropriate. Hopefully my second attempt at a post here will go more smoothly

Ah, the Oly 3040! I know, I know, its old technology and has its flaws, but the reason I bought the S400 was because my old Olympus 3030 was stolen while I was visiting the beautiful country of Estonia... and the insurance company finally paid out!

I love my new compact S400, but I do miss the hefty flash power, the nice grip, and the extensive manual controls of the Olympus.

Anyway, thank you for the welcome

Okay, I did some searching in an attempt to redeem myself here, and came up with a $35 coupon (via a generator online) that DID work, literally less than 15 minutes ago for me at Dell Home, bringing the price down to $381.37. I think -- especially without rebate hassles -- this is a major steal!

Hmm... not bad.

But I just bought one off of Ebay for $409... no hassels, no rebates.

Just a thought if you don't or can't get the all the coupons and rebates.

BTW..... I have it now and yes.... oh yes... it's cool.

Buying cameras off of eBay can sometimes be good, but counterintuitive - the warranty will occasionally be rejected from Canon as not purchased by an authorized retailer. Happened to me, beware.

Very nice deal, on a superb camera. You can get basically the same deal on the S45 if it floats your boat more I believe. Just for those wondering I found the coupon generator while climbing to the top of Coupon Mountain

Funny, that's exactly the same mountain I climbed!

And by the way, since I had one fella asking me whether he should buy the S45 or S400, I'll note that this issue has been exhaustively discussed at the dPreview forums, and it basically comes down to what you value more: extensive manual controls in a small-but-not-cigarette-sized package OR ultra-compactness with limited manual controls.

People have really seemed to like both cameras, and as I noted earlier, I'm very pleased with my S400

Anyway, glad to see my first thread has ended up not sucking after all!

I think the S400 is better deal, just because of it's cool factor, i mean, it's almost as small as Osama Bin Laden's penis

And likely garners a more favorable response from women.

Er, okay, getting somewhat back on topic. I will note that I keep getting, "Oh, that camera is so cuuuuuute!" from women, along with some guys saying either "Wow!" or "heh heh, um, kinda small, isn't it?"

I'm not sure if it's the best thing for a guy to have a "cute" camera. But with that said, I'm still happy I have it

Definitely a few reviews out there, mostly quite positive.

Check out DCViews and click on the Canon Powershot S400 for a list of published reviews and other info.
