I'm with ya man. I go to college near DC, but my home is in Atlanta. I smell roadtrip during the grand opening.

lol, i always do that when I go to fry's.

I always USED to do that when I went to Fry's. I no longer go there because of that very reason. As much as I hate Circuit City, I'd rather go there and spend 5X too much than have to deal with their incompetent staff and being wary of little white stickers claiming their items are as good as new and selling them AS new.

<off the soapbox now>

WOOT here but I am pretty sure that Incredible Unverse and Computer City were once part of Tandy Corp ( Radio Shack ) . Incredible Univers folded and CompUSA bought Computer City . Enough

Yeah, fry's have everything you can think of if you're the electronic freak, no other store come close.

Maybe it's just the Tempe, AZ ghetto fry's (Used to be an incredible universe) but that winding checkout line of random crap gets me half the times I show up. WHY THE HELL DOES AN ELECTRONICS STORE CARRY OREO ICECREAM SANDWITCHES ANYWAY!!! Oh, and do keep an eye for those 'lil white stickers...

What do the white stickers mean? I'm heading to see family in Santa Clara on Tuesday and believe me, after 3 years with no Fry's I want to go back just to be in the building

the white stickers mean the product has been returned. if the person who returns the item says the item is fine and just wants to return it, it gets shoved back into its box with a sticker. but sometimes those boxes are missing items (like IO plates on mobos) or are genuinely defective and don't work. so when you buy, buy the ones without the sticker first and then if you have to, buy a returned item. but keep your receipt handy--you will probably have to return it... and a fry's return is probably the biggest pain in the ass in retail.

Kick ass! I remember how envious I was when I found out that ComPro made the only nVidia Personal Cinema combos and their only outlet was Fry's. Damn I was mad...

I'm in Newnan too yet I've had to drive to Gwinette to get some killer Best Buy deals that Douglassville and Fayeteville couldn't offer. It's not so bad if you know how to hit all of the deals at once and have a day to do so.

They always shut it down at even the slightest hint of rain. On my visits, it's been on only once since I got my season pass two years ago.

How the hell did an edit post twice?

Nope, I don't think it's going to be in Lawrenceville. It's near Gwinnett Place Mall. Actually, I think that's why Microcenter opened a store there, otherwise I don't think they would have opened another store. I think the competition's really going to heat up, seeing that that the CompUSA, Circuit City, Microcenter, Best Buy and Fry's are gonna be fairly close in the same area.

As for you North Fultonites, here's where your Fry's is likely to be...

Alpharetta Fry's

When I visited Fry's in California and Arizona, they always asked me my ZIP code. So, I gave them my Metro Atlanta one. So I like to think that I played a part in them coming here!

I'm happy that I didn't ride it then... I was there back in March and it was out of service, we were riding Psyclone and they held us for 15 minutes waiting to pass by it while they did a test ride. Apparently they didn't want us walking under it because the last time it ran, "A few bolts shot out of it." If it does open up again, I'm not riding...

Something about fry's....

Is it kinda like a BB and Compusa put together? I've never actually asked what a Fry's inventory encompasses.

oak--

worst buy and compussr stock more 'consumer electronics' than 'electronics'. let me see if my brain can remember the layout of the fry's in santa clara (from walking in the door, hugging the right wall, going all the way around):

electronics parts (resistors, transistors, breadboards, etching solution, you name it (like a radio shack of olde)), cpus/motherboards/harddrives/memory along the right front wall, cases and networking stuff, a huge section of tech and tech-related books, various expansion card isles (sound cards, video cards, io cards, etc etc), speakers, cd/dvd drives, full computers in the back, monitors, printers, they have a mac section with hardware and some software, a games section (pc,ps2,xbox,gc dominate the collection but there's some dreamcast games), the audio/video part of the store i never really go to has speakers, car speakers, car audio systems (they do installation), tvs, cameras, video cameras, a cafe in the middle, a largeish music section, a medium-sized dvd section (with anime! some prices are better than at suncoast, some not), a bunch of appliances (fridges, microwaves, A/C units, more)... somebody who knows this section help me out.

upon reading that last paragraph, several omissions leap to mind. it's better to ask "what don't they have" than "what do they have".

anyway, the point is, it's bigger than bb and cusa, it has more selection than either, and it has stuff that you just won't find at bb or cusa (electronics stuff, lower-level components (i don't usually see more than one or two sound cards at bb, but fry's has half an isle devoted to them).

i don't envy atlantans who get to wait in the lines it'll generate though -- near my house in northern california there's about 3-5 within reasonable driving distance, so the demand on the sales gets spread over that many stores.. but i wouldn't be surprised to see lines wrapping all the way around the store in atlanta.

A few bolts shot out! Know I see why they always have it shut down. I wont ride it either when they open it back up, I doubt it will be in service this year. I did want to ride it, but now hearing that bolts are flying out of it i think i will pass on that ride.....

I've been to Fry's once in my life, and that because my brothers all live in CA. Now they need to expand up to NY. Of course, that happening in NYC probably isn't very likely, but maybe they could open up somewhere in Jersey along the PATH, now that would rule!
