Hot for contact lens people

Hey guys today I picked up some ReNu Multiplus solution 12oz bottle w/ free rewetting eye drops for $1.55 at Walmart. It was priced on the shelf for 6.xx I checked out and looked at the reciept to see that it was 6.xx for 4 so it only rang up as $1.55 per bottle. So I went back and bought about 20 bottles today for my family and my g/f. I think normally they are anywhere from 5.xx to 6.xx a bottle so I had to stock up..

wow that is definitely a pretty good deal, i just spent $16.99 + 5.99 = 22.98 at costco for 32oz of renu no rub solution and two little bottles of eyedrops.

BTW forgot to add that the rewetting drops are samples that come with the solution so they are a lil smaller but heck i've got like 20 lil bottles of rewetting drops now..

The solution is good until some time in 2004 so I figure I've got enough for almost a year.

Hope you don't buy those rewetting drops when they are not free. They are a scam. Those drops are nothing more then 1 oz. of the same solution in the 16 oz. Multiplus bottle with an eyedropper head. I have no problem dropping solution in my eyes from the big bottle.

Unless the formulas have changed, THEY BURN! WhHenever I used the cleansing soulution as an eyedrop, I'd be in pain for a bit. Maybe you're just tougher than I am

Yep, they are. They generally have the same ingredients in the same concentrations, I think they just try to market it as a easier way to carry the solution (rewetting drops) on you so you can use them anywhere.

On the burning issue, it depends I think pretty much all the brands have become a lot better in that respect. Last year I could not use Alcon solution even for soaking because it hurt like crazy but this year it is much better, the same goes for Renu to a lesser degree, the only one that was really gentle was Allergan Complete solution. Now they all are gentle. Maybe I just got used to the harsher solutions, I don't know.

yes they are the no rub solution i dont think renu has regular ones anymore not in the blue boxes anyways.

on the shelf they were listed for 6.xx but they rung up at the register for cheaper so it may be a local pricing error..
i was at the northtown walmart in minnesota.

I think this is definitely YMMV and most likely only a Minnesota thing...

The No-Rub solutions like optifree and renu are the same as the old regular bottles. they just got approval from the FDA to use the solutions without rubbing. However, it is still recommended that you rub your lenses, esp if you keep your lenses for 2 weeks or longer.

Alcon (optifree) recently changed the preservative in their solution to one that causes less allergic reactions...thats why it feels better to some. optifree and renu are very similar in makeup. complete is a little different so if the other two bother you ..give it a shot.

also, talk with your optometrist about getting solutions. i have seen several give patients free sample bottles whenever they want it. several patients come in every few months and stock up for free. of course it depends on where you go for eye exams....places like walmart etc arent going to do it for ya

Thanks for the info, I can never get my optometrist to tell me much about solutions and the differences between them.

Can I use this for rigid glass contact or just those soft contract lenses? I don't know the difference becuase my sister uses rigid glass and she is on vacation. OOOOO someone please tell me.

you have to have special stuff for hard contacts. this stuff is for soft only.

Actually, there is a difference between the old (ReNu Multi-Purpose) and the new no-rub (ReNu MultiPlus) solutions. The new solution has an added component called "Hydranate" (aka, hydroxyalkylphosphanate) which is the ingredient that is supposed to help remove protein deposits. I believe the addition of this active ingredient to the formula is what allowed Bausch & Lomb to obtain FDA approval for the "no-rub" label.

Unfortunately, I found out about this the hard way as the new no-rub formula burns like mad whenever I store my lenses in it overnight. Fortunately, B&L still manufactures the old ReNu Multi-Purpose solution.

Thanks for the info, I can never get my optometrist to tell me much about solutions and the differences between them.

I've tried Alcon (OptiFree), Renu Multiplus (NoRub), and AMO's Complete (NoRub) and it seems that the Complete is the best on my eyes. None of them really bother me that much. But the AMO just seems soothing with Alcon not as irritating as Renu. Seems a lot of eye docs are pushing specific solutions because of a deal they have with a particular manu. Mine admitted it but said that because they have that deal they can give me free samples (they were using Alcon).
