The last page of the article talks about how nvidia admitted thier mistake with NV30, but have fixed it in NV35 and it looks like they are right

i'll save you time and predict the next 12 months: ati's next chip will blow nvidia out of the water. and then nvidia's next chip will blow ati out of the water. and so on and so on. i'm gonna wait until doom3 is actually out and then buy the best card that's available....

Wow. The lesson for me is don't upgrade video cards again until after Doom 3 comes out: "These high-res AA/Aniso modes are clearly not for the mainstream cards, and are even stressing the new $500 cards fairly well. Those looking for the best Doom3 performance may want to wait until right after the game comes out to upgrade their graphics cards, with hopes that even faster (and cheaper) hardware will be out by then."

Yea ive always been an Nvidia fan for one reason...THIER DRIVERS KICK. I think ati is getting better but is still not up there with nvidia. I have a 4200 now and im going to wait till nvidia's mainstream card lowers in price. I think right now the 4200 can handle most games and then some. I think its stupid to pay 500 for a video card that there is no games for now. Wait till directx9 comes out and then get a card for it. The cards will be much cheaper at the point.

dx9 is out. im running directx9.0...


the ati 9700 series is directx 9 compatible. so get that, it's the best. i got the 9700 tx

I'll wait another 6 months and see what I can get for $200. I have an 8500LE (which I have been using for 14+ months) which I bought for $200. 9700 regular are almost down to $200 OEM but I think I will wait. These cards are getting faster at such a fast pace that I think I may wait 2 generations to upgrade. BF1942 performs ok at 1152x864x16 (no AA) so I think I can stick with that for now.

I agree. The test needed more of the cards we are familiar with (GF3 GF4Ti), and not just the latest-greatest models. And you know, that Voodoo 3 is still a viable card for Counter-Strike and other good vintage games from not so long ago.

I'm sure he was joking. But the post made me realize what I missed in those benchmarks; the current decent cards which I am familiar with, like GeForce 3 & most GeForce4 Ti4x00 models. Agreed...but I think that your card probably would run doom 3 almost two slow to even get ito work...just a thought, nothing personal...
