I'm sure he was joking. But the post made me realize what I missed in those benchmarks; the current decent cards which I am familiar with, like GeForce 3 & most GeForce4 Ti4x00 models. NVidia and ATI are ready to sell us $500 video cards, but I also want to know how my current stuff measures up to this game.

Agreed...but I think that your card probably would run doom 3 almost two slow to even get ito work...just a thought, nothing personal...

Well you think wrong. I ran doom 3 alpha on Geforce3 TI 200(slower than the regular geforce) at 800x600x16bit and got reasonable frame rates(Read: over 40fps).

How did you change the vid mode? The alpha I saw (d/l'ed from Usenet) didn't have options available to change vid mode, control keys, etc.

you could change the configuration in a text file. Not easy as it wasn't formatted to be easily read but was doable. Very cool game. I have a Athlon xp 2100+, 512mb, and GF4 TI 4200 64mb and it ran Doom 3 without a hitch at high detail levels. Now if I turned on AA or AF it took a dump but I guess you can't have everything.

I'm normally pretty laid-back when it comes to topics posted in other forums and whether or not they "belong" there. But, this is ridiculous.

1. There are plenty of other threads in other forums where you can disucss to your hearts content, NV30/35/40 and R3000/350/360/400 et. al.
2. I'd wager that 99% of the people in this forum are aware that AT has Doom 3 benches. And that 1%? They don't care in the first place which is why they don't know.
3. Your "hot deal" was posted a good ways AFTER the article had been out for a while, so it doesn't even qualify as hot "news".

With it being made for the Xbox too, Nvidia chipset tweaks will be definately pushed now, so I think my XP 1700 and Ti4200 will be just fine for awhile til the 5900 is around the 200 mark. Thanks for the heads up though!

I'm kind of curious as to what mod will be brave enough to brand an AT review as not a hot deal and lock it. Come on, step up to the plate.

BTW: The GeForce 5900 Ultra will be branded a POS after the new drivers version makes it behave well. Overclockers will be able to buy FlowFX kits with secondary Tornado fans to boost the GPU to a competitive (with the 9800 Pro) level.
