I just did the method described above... ordered the CD-rom and the Canon MP3 software. Don't really care if the S/W sucks... it's free. SO, I ordered the 48x CDRoM for $49.99 + sofware for $29.99. $25.00 off $75 coupon. Free shipping. $4.53 for tax. Total... $54.96. $60 back in rebates. $0.68 for stamps. So, this deal will cost me a total of $0.17!!! SWEET DEAL!!! Thanks for the original post!!! Let's just hope staples will let it fly.

What will staples accept as a receipt/invoice? The email confirmation? It says to send them the packing invoice or original receipt from the box, but all I have is a packing slip that says in big red letters: NOT AN INVOICE. What gives?

Also, does this online submission look hokey to anyone else? I print out a sheet of paper that I'm supposed to TAPE this huge piece of paper along with the UPC. They say "If the UPC symbol is on thick cardboard, you may need to put everything in an actual envelope." Duuuh. Don't waste your time doing it the online way.

I've actually looked at this thread three times because it's so tempting. Got plenty of CD drives, but the spares all suck (less than 1x) for ripping.

The clincher for me was the rebate address. Coppell Texas. The same rebate processing center which handled the infamous Diamond Rio 300 $50 rebates. That one was a shell game and a half, no thanks. If a rebate is being processed by the people up in Young America Minnesota I'm happy to jump on the bandwagon usually.

Gawd, done too many rebates when I'm recognizing the processing centers.

Oh, just in case you didn't know...Memorex/Staples/etc don't touch the rebates. Hardly anyone does. There are a few companies around which specialize in handling rebates, they're contracted by whoever runs the rebate. That's what I mean by rebate centers - the companies/places processing the rebates for companies.

I called up Staples some time ago to ask about rebates from Staples, and the CSR said that although the packing slip says "NOT AN INVOICE", it is valid for the mail in rebates from Staples. It appears to work as I got a rebate on some speakers that way.

I hate their online thing. Twice I've mailed that folded paper BS and they never received my UPCs. Hmmmm....

The mail in way is much better. Either way, you need to spend the stamp to get the UPC to them (unless I'm missing something).

The bastards are denying my rebate saying that I sent in a form for a monitor, not the cd-rom. This is total bull*%$&. I have the copy of the form right in front of me, and there is no way I sent the wrong one. Anybody know the direct number to the rebate people? Bastards.

I find that Paragao (people who do Staples fulfillment) is quite good. When the form is initiated online, everything can be tracked online and they pay in 8 weeks of the APPLICATION date - like clockwork!

EVERY TIME there has been an issue, they have been very easy to deal with. Their website, which is almost identical to the Staples rebate center (surprise?) is rebates hq web site. You will find rebates for other companies such as Maxtor who use Parago on this site.

Well, the good thing is that it was VERY easy to take care of once I had that 888 phone number. Thank you again. She could see th error on her end once I gave her a little information. I was prepared to fax everything to them, but I didn't even have to. How much you want to bet they are trained to deny a certain percentage for bogus reasons and hope that nobody will check into it or just give up? Amazing.

Staples typically has a cheap CD-Rom for almost free / free after coupon / rebate once or twice a month - swicthing between the Delta 50x and the memorex.

I dont know if this was just a problem specific to me , but I couldnt get my MSI K7T Pro2a m/board to detect this CDROM. Bios wouldnt detect it. So I switched it with the drive in my P3 system and it had no problem recognising it. Maybe an incompatibility with the VIA chipset?

Anyone else had this problem?

also no prolem using CloneCD,
nor with rebate.
