arent the SPs frontlit not backlit? Does the manual or the box say anything about it? All the (p)reviews I read say it's frontlit...

Guilty Gear X That is a good game on DC/PS2. Good 2D fighter. I think I'll jump on the CompUSA combo for $99.99 instead.

don't you think that these will get cheaper if you wait a little. i mean, i never would've thought that the prices of game consoles would ever drop, but as you can see, both ps2 and xbox are $200 (original $300) and the gamecube is $150 (original $200). moreover, there is controversy that the ps2 and xbox will be lowered to like $200-$250, which would even lower the price of the gamecube.

anyways, i remember i bought the original gba at full price and i totally wish i didn't. it's like half price now...

so lesson learned: games and game consoles are cheaper if you can wait and sacrifice novelty.

Also, remember that GBA was originally released at $119.00, then it went down to $99.00 andeventually to $69.00 All the price drops despite strong sales

I find it stupid to play with GB's but don't you like to play with it when you're in the backseat of mommy & daddy's car? What if it's night?

They will definitely be cheaper...although it may not be until around Christmas time. Of course, they may only drop to like $79 or $89, it won't be as dramatic as an Xbox or PS2.

Picked mine up from EB last night. Very cool little machine. I like the closing case as it will help keep the screen scratch free. I believe the screen is frontlit (just like an afterburner kit) but it works very well, I hated trying to angle the old one just right to see clearly. This thing also has a Li-Ion battery. I'm sure Nintendo is loosing money on these units as most companies do when selling consoles. They make it up in game sales.

I'd guess the price will stay at $99 through xmas this year. They are still making the regular GBAs so prices on them will probably drop dramatically.

Also, EB is currently paying $30 on used GBAs and there is a rebate deal too (in the spirit of the Hot Deals forum). Buy the SP and the new Pokemon game and get a $25 MIR. They have Pokemon overpriced at $34.95 so have 'em pricematch BB or someplace first at $29. If you don't want the game you could also try returning it unopened and getting your money back or exchanging it for a game you want. Don't know if this is EB exclusive or anything else about it cause I didn't go for it, so YMMV.

Hmm, got the call to pick up my preorder @EB... think I should pick it up and then come back on Sunday have them pricematch one of the places that will have a bundle on Sunday? Which place has the best bundle?

Bundles from what I recall:
CUSA - GGX
Target - Driver2
CC - pick either Defender or Ironman

edit: added CC

by the way, how is this a 'hot deal'

I'm getting tired of all the threads latley that are just about a certain store simply HAVING a product in stock. A hot deal is something that is priced at a pricepoint that is lower than it normally is.

So yes, I am crapping on this thread. It belongs in OT

The lighted screen is worth the money. While a GBA with an Afterburner is nice, most people don't want to do the work, plus the extra cost for the unit... And the size of the GBA SP is so cool.

Personally I think the size is far too small. I don't have little tiny hands.

I never got the original GBA because of the poor lighting. I picked up an SP today, and it's awesome . Form factor is way cooler too. Much less like a toy.

The form factor is lame

BTW

It IS A TOY

OK, I want one - where's the best deal? Someone said CompUSA has a bundle (free game) or something? Where's the info on that?

True, and that would especially go for it if it were a new system that required new software, however it uses a large established base of software, so no need to wait for good games, also, if they lower the SP price, they have to lower the original GBA or they original wont sell at all. While it WILL lower eventually, it wont be anytime soon. I bet it wont lower before xmas, and maybe not even till the xmas after that

CompUSA will have them on 23rd and according to the ad they will be selling for $69.99 if you buy with GuiltyGearX. So basically you get GuiltyGearX for free.

Okay, I broke down and got a newspaper w/ the CompUSA ad:

GBA SP $69.99** + Guilty Gear X (GBA) $29.99 = $99.99

** After Savings when you buy Guilty Gear X!
$99.99 - $30 Bundle Instant Savings

Jeez Johnbear if it IS A TOY why do you take it so personally? I mean some of us happen to like it, so let us KIDS have our fun.

I'm glad this post is here, I didn't know about all these package deals and now I do, so there's one happy forum reader.

Do I detect a little Fanboyish envy... "oh yea well if sega ever made a portable system it would roxxor your boxxors, so there!"

I double checked my local CompUSA (Long Beach, CA) and the store mgr wasn't letting any SPs sell today. He said he's keeping them "locked up" until Sunday. It didn't seem to matter when I mentioned that Toys R Us, EB, KMart, etc. were already selling them. Oh well.

I also checked the local Circuit City and they had no idea when they'd be on sale. Probably next week (?) ...

I think it's worth it (at least for me) to wait until Sunday & p-u the CompUSA bundle.

Wow, SOMEONE has a stick up their ass about the GBA. What did a GameBoy ever do to you, kill your dog or something?

I think this is definitely YMMV at this point, I went to K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Meijer, and KB today, none of them had them out, and said they would not be selling them until the release date. So I think it's going to depend on where you are right now.

Although I DO want a GBASP, I'm in no rush to get one. So I'll wait until there's a better deal or bundle that better suits me.

The thing that I don't like about the GBASP is the lack of a headphone jack. Nintendo is making us buy a headphone jack adapter, just more $$ to line N's pockets-lame imo.

i think the headphone kit costs like $15. typical nintendo all right -- how is nin headphone gonna be better?
still might get it for that gg cusa bundle -- there won't be a better deal (for those who don't have either already) this year
nintendo holds the price on EVEN wal-mart, an emp tol me
