The card is great for CUDA and Folding @ Home

AMAZON Link

Rebate Link

Note: There is a typo on the rebate. It states 9600GT vs. GSO, however the product code, SKU, and ASIN do match up with the GSO part...

Merry Christmas!

Edit: The extra memory (768MB vs. 384MB Standard) should add at least 10% more performance when compared to the "regular" 9600 GSO with 384MB of RAM.

Features 96 Processor Cores to greatly accelerate your games and any computationally intense task
That's amazing, thought were were still around 10 years away from that.

How do these things stack up against a 9600GT?

PNY is supposedly very fast with sending the rebate checks out...

I say it will be the same or better than the GT because of the extra memory (768MB) + OC.

weren't there more than one version of the GSO? Maybe based on different cores?

this is the older, but better-performing, 9600GSO with 96 shaders and 192-bit memory. The new revision has 48 shaders, but 256-bit 512mb RAM. Truth be told, most people won't ever see the benefit of 768 MB over 384 MB. The extra memory only comes into play at high resolution/high detail settings; unfortunately the processor is unable to keep up at that level. This argument has been with all the middle-class graphic cards with extra memory. I have both 8800GS and 9600GSO and they are great products.

By the way, Amazon only has it for pre-order only. You can also order it from another vendor through Amazon, at a lower price and free shipping, too; but I don't know if the rebate is valid.

That is a good deal but I am kind of leary of a $70 rebate with the way that things are these days.

With the rebate linked directly on the amazon page, seems legit, unless PNY goes toes up, but even then I would expect Amazon to sort it out.

DVI instead of HDMI, does that mean I can't use it to play HD or whatever digitally in full resolution to a big screen?

DVI is capable of displaying to 1920*1200 and beyond, which is HD. To get more than 1920*1200 out of the DVI connection, you need a dual-link DVI cable (most of the DVI cable that comes with the monitor is the regular kind).

Must be post marked with in 30 days from the purchased date...what if it takes that long for them to release them?

Also rebate states purchase must be made at Amazon.com does that mean you can still order it from one of the resellers on Amazon since you are at Amazon.com when making the purchase?

Can I do SLI with this card? I have a 384MB 9600GSO. It doesn't have the standard pcb layout for G92 cards though.

It's about 95-100w or 9 amps draw from the 12v line. Should work with almost anything. Even with your wimpy 305w PSU you should be fine.

Understood, but without the HDMI some things are limited to analog output only, no digital. This card would be for a system hooked to a big screen and used for media as well as games, so I really would prefer not to convert to analog, send that to the monitor and have it converted back with "some" loss before digital display.

He might be referring to HDCP compliancy. AFAIK, HDCP compliant card and monitor can work just fine with HDMI+DVI Adapter (no limitations).

DVI is all digital, as is HDMI. The only difference is that it has lower bandwidth (though more than enough for 1920*1080) and that it cannot carry audio signal.

As noted in the original post, there's a problem with the Rebate form. Rather than ignore it, and possibly having problems getting the Rebate, I've filled out the Amazon Customer Service form and complained about the Rebate discrepancy. If you wish to do the same, the form is available on any "Help" page. Click on the yellow "Contact Us" button. Then click on the "Customer Service - E-mail" button.

Here's the text I used. Feel free to copy and file your own complaint:

=======================

The Rebate form for the PNY Verto GeForce 9600 768MB Overclocked Video Card is INCORRECT. I ordered this item on December 25 but I've noticed that the (very large) $70 rebate specifies a product description that doesn't match the item. The UPC codes match, but the descriptions are VERY different. It's quite possible that the Rebate will be denied.

Item: PNY Verto GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB Overclocked Video Card:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001IDY2PC

Rebate Form:
http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/00/00/03/25/04/10/325041050._V237163172_.pdf

Description of Product on Rebate Form:
PNY GeForce 9600 GT 512MB DDR3 PCIe 2.0 w/FOW

Actual Item Description:
PNY GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB

Can you please fix the Rebate form so I (and many others) don't have problems receiving this $70 Rebate?

Thank you.

How much better is this card than an 8600 gts? How easy is it to break an MB capacitor? When installing my 8600 I had to push the capacitor out of the way. I'm afraid of it will break when installing this card. These cards are big.
BB will have this card tomorrow for $100. So this is a Hot Deal. Thanks OP.

this card is quite a bit better than 8600gts, which is only marginally better than 7600gt. Not only is it faster, it's quieter as well. When overclocked, it can just about match a 8800GT.
