Hey, RebateMonger, keep us posted on Amazon's response to your query.

Do they say anything about when the card will be released for shipment?

Country2, doesn't Amazon only charge you when it ships? In that case I believe that will be your purchase date.

Also, to address your question directly mikeford, yes it will work just fine. DVI is fully compliant with HDCP (it's only an issue when using Component cables). In any case, there are programs like AnyDVD HD which can strip it off anyway, so either way you are fine.

Hope this helps the both of you.

Hmm, wouldn't this be better than the 9600GT because of the higher memory? AFAIK the 8800GS had stronger shaders/core.

I have both, 9600GT has a slight edge in gaming if you turn on AA but mine doesn't OC as well as my 9600GSO cards do. GSO has a definite advantage in F@H which is why I might want a couple more.

BB will have this card tomorrow for $100. So this is a Hot Deal. Thanks OP.

The difference is day and night. I went from an 8600GTS OC to an 8800GT OC and was amazed and how much of a piece of crap the GTS was.

I used to think that Amazon did not charge until shipped but I just ordered some stuff from them 5 minutes ago and received this email

"Amazon Payments has redeemed your gift certificate for this purchase and charged your (Visa) credit card for the outstanding balance not covered by the gift certificate. The funds have been credited to TigerDirect, Inc"......noticed the word "charged" and I'm sure it has not shipped yet

^Hmm, that's my mistake then. Maybe you should send them an e-mail and find out. Perhaps it's somehow different because you used a giftcard or because it's for TigerDirect?

for those that think newer is better, Expreview compared the the "new and improved" 55nm G94 9600GSO to the "old" 65nm G92 9600GSO, and found the new one lagging in every benchmark except Fallout 3. Get the old one while you can. The article is in Chinese but the results are in English.

Yeah...

Called both PNY and Amazon regarding that rebate (if you had pre-ordered and printed it out) and the card listing on Amazon...

Rebate:
According the the PNY rep, the model number of this card is entitled to the 70.00 rebate. So that is good (the name was just wrong on the form).

Amazon/Card:
Well Amazon claims that the manufacture told them they will not be able to ship stock to them for a couple of weeks...meaning for sale by Amazon LLC as opposed to a third party vendor as listed as being "in stock" with at the site now.

See a possible problem/issue here for any of us who pre-ordered the card? If that card doesn't arrive at Amazon, for say, another two weeks the actual purchase date as listed on the invoice would be the day you are charged for this, and with Amazon being the seller, that won't be until they ship it. So you would be charged the full 112.00 for the card, but not eligible for the rebate which would now be out of the purchase date range.

PNY had this convoluted suggestion of sending in partial information now, and then all the required information later (like we should trust that working).

So there are three choices:

1. Cancel the order
2. Wait and hope it ships before the 8th, with the risk of missing the rebate and eating the whole 112.00
3. Call Amazon, explain all this to them (being really nice...it gets you farther with the reps), saying that the reason you placed the order was that incredible rebate. They should do for you like me and if it ships out of the rebate expiration date, Amazon will credit you with an INSTANT REBATE for the 70.00!!!! (putting that all as notes on your order)

Heh, now I'm hoping it DOES take a little past the 8th to get these out! Instant rebate is better than waiting for one in the mail.

Hope this helps a bit for those who pre-ordered.

Yup, 9600GSO is definitely hurt by the lower memory bandwidth, but in benchmarks, an overclocked GSO kicks the crap out of the 9600GT.

Amazon updated the rebate to correctly show that the $70 rebate is for the GSO:

Link.

I am really glad that they fixed this. I was lucky enough to get this for $30 before the price went up.

The price for this card has dropped to $105.98 (rebate still good), so if you ordered it at the $119.42 price and it hasn't shipped yet (like me) you may wanna cancel and re-order at the lower price. Link

$35.98 AR for this card is sizzling hot!

Thanks OP

I am not hopeful about this shipping in time for the rebate to still be valid, but I have no reason to be pessimistic, either. I will cancel when/if it becomes too late for the rebate.

PNY 9600GSO uses a cooler/fan different from EVGA's (either single-slot aluminum heatsink with copper core/heatpipe, or dual slot, all-aluminum heatsink with no heatpipe). PNY's cooler is single slot without heatpipe; the fan is smaller and runs at 100% without any adjustability. It's a little louder, and not as effective as EVGA's. It's lightly overclocked (580/850 gpu/mem) out of the factory, although most 9600GSO's have no problem getting 680/1000 anyway. If you plan on using aftermarket cooler (Zerotherm's 8800cu Hurricane works perfectly), this card is ok, otherwise go with evga.

Can OP or someone else update this to DEAD? When I go to Amazon the last two days, all I see is ...

5 used & new available from $131.98 (other sellers, no direct from Amazon option)

Unless there's something quirky with my browser (Firefox), this deal doesn't exist anymore & I keep getting teased into looking at it since the thread hasn't been updated.

If you want to replace the cooler, go with an Accelero S1 and strap a 120mm fan to it.

This card might be good too since it could use the default pcb layout, meaning volt mods would be relatively simple.

Mine has arrived.. it came from Buy.com

I had not realized that it had even shipped yet... I had not received an email... I was just now preparing the rebate. I went into my account at Amazon to view the order and print the invoice. There was no hint to be found that my card had already shipped on my order confirmation page but when I hit the button that said "do you need to print and invoice?" there was a completed Amazon invoice that read "shipped 12/31/08." It is an Amazon invoice, their logo in the letterhead. It does say "Sold by: BuyNow Incorporated (seller profile)" in small letters, too. Hopefully there will not be an issue with the rebate... it says "valid only for purchases made at: Amazon.com." The fact that the purchase was made at Amazon, though sold by BuyNow is clear from the invoice.

Here is an excellent explanation of the different DVI types.
