Good price for a powersupply even though it is generic. Just FYI for Sacramento area people. This deal is $14.99 - 5 (MIR) = $9.99 AR

That's just scary. I'm all for inexpensive stuff (I use a $20, 450W non-name power supply myself), but $4.99 for a power supply? I'd be scared to rely on it.

Hmmm. gamble a $50+ cpu, a $70+ motherboard, a $100+ video card and $80+ ram sticks on a $4.95 PSU? That is a gamble I wouldn't take. I think I will keep my name brand (Hey, Enlight is a name) power supply and have a little peace of mind.

My thoughts exactly. I'd rather spend $30 for a sparkle.

Don't even think about overclocking with this thing. And if you have more than one large hard drive, if you have a modern power hungry video card, this cheap power supply will take itself + your other components out which is why so many people warn against this.

The only people who would go for this are those who have not experienced (or don't know anyone who has experienced) what happens after a Power Supply goes out.

Shilt, wish I would have thought of this earlier. How about using this sucker for some CCL's & Fans when setting up your
Modding Gear Could keep it external like the one pictured is intended.

I bought this PSU to use with the Celeron & VIA combo also being sold at Fry's. It seem to be work good until I checked the voltage railings(?) and saw that the -12V was out of threshold. It was reading close to -13.85V and the limit suggested by the hardware monitor is -13.15. So I got all paranoid and swapped out the PSU. What could be the cause of this and is it really that dangerous? I'm trying to find as much info as possible on PSU's but not having much luck. Hope someone will answer... the system runs the following:

2.4Ghz Celeron
VIA P4PB 400-CFL
512mb PC2100
Geforce2 GTS-V
1x CDRW
2x hdd
1x fan controller with 3 fans connected.

I just read in a thread about someone mentionin that that -3.3v -5v and -12v are not used and are for old ISA cards or something.. so therefore it is not really that important. Can someone confirm this?? If that's the case I think I am just going to keep it... just cuz something is cheap it shouldn't mean they are crap all the time... before they slashed the price to 5bux it was $35.

I think that's correct that the -12v rail isn't used anymore. Unfortunately, with psu's, when they're cheap it's usually cause they are crap. I wouldn't touch that thing with a ten foot pole. But hey, it's your system. So if you're comfortable with the posibility of the thing blowing and taking half your system with it, go right ahead and use it.

lol... thanks for making me feel more comfortable with this purchase ...
but as long as voltage readings are stable a PSU should have no problems correct?
I mean I've read and heard about even expensive brand name PSU's that blow up in one's face...
I guess it's just luck of the draw...

Sorry, but if it was my computer I wouldn't be comfortable with one of them in. Problems with brand name psu's happen much less. If you open up a generic psu you will see that the caps, wires, pretty much everything is much lighter than on a quality psu. 95% of the time generics are not built to take the load that is advertised on them and the voltages will be unstable. Maybe you'll be lucky though and this one will be of the 5% that are ok.
