This game is as stupid as they come. What kinda loser over the age of 12 plays monopoly games anyways? As far as racism and all the other stuff, I'm 95% sure that whoever made this game wouldn't drive within 5 miles of a true ghetto neighborhood. But the biggest joke would be on whoever buys this as $30 + s&h is a true waste on 5 minutes of nerd fun.
Well apparently it's some asian dude, and I have to say that there are asian people in ghettos, so I dunno if you'd be right.
I'm from NYC, and I find it funny in Rochester when people stay away from the "ghetto" neighborhood and are scared to go out alone on campus by the footbridge we have because you might be mugged. Hahahaha. Massively funny if you actually look at the crime rate in that neighborhood then compare it to a *nice* neighborhood here in Queens. My NYC neighborhood rates a 7 in violent crime vs the 2 in the "ghetto" section of Rochester(to be fair, my friend was mugged at gunpoint nearby, but that's not the point, it's just how NYC is, my neighborhood isn't actually ghetto at all).
Anyways, I think I had a point, and that was that I'm sure there are plenty of people who aren't scared to walk or drive through a ghetto. Although there's always the few morons who insist on claiming that if you walk through harlem you'll get mugged like it's a definite 100% thing, it's ludicrous. Particularly since there are plenty of parts of Harlem that are actually quite nice anyway, and even the crappy parts nobody's ever tried to mug me. Heh, people have been annoying and heckling cuz they have nothing better to do at times, but even then I think it was just in fun(since I think it was some 40 year old woman, and not-in fact-"gangstas". Of course, this also doesn't mean that it'd be smart to walk through a really shitey neighborhood without watching your back, but if you're not a lightweight and you're a guy, most of the time people aren't going to start crap with you at random just because it's a crappy neighborhood. People have to live there after all!
But anyway, that aside, I don't really think you can pick on this game for being racist. Yeah, it *is* somewhat racist, but if you haven't been picking on Grand Theft Auto 3(italian and japanese and chinese americans probably do not appreciate the mafia members, yakuza, and triads running around in the games-I mean come on I played it and there's the level with the chinese laundromat that's really just a front for the triads) or any of the 10000 other games out there that aren't 100% PC.
The truth is, the game isn't busting the chops of any particular race here! There *are* crack dealers, there *is* a lot of weed, and people do do the stupid crimes this game portrays, although generally not quite like the game makes it. So in this case I'd just write it off as the usual blowing stuff out of proportion for entertainment value category. Yeah you can still be pissed at it, but maybe you should think about how other people(like the Italian-American Anti-Defamation League heh) feels when they're being stereotyped and say something about it in general.
Me? I don't really care as long as everybody's getting made fun of equally, heh. The fact that they have Redneckopoly coming is nice. And Grand Theft Auto 3 was fun as hell, even though they stereotyped the crap out of the Chinese, Japanese, and Italian.
