I have an mp3 player that uses CF. It's the Frontier Labs Nex II. It takes CF and IBM Microdrives up do 1 GB. Also acts as a portable hard drive.

Huh? I don't get it. This is a really hot deal!!! I've been waiting for a long time... for compact flash card prices to fall, and at $90 bucks, this was a hot deal. Even pricewatch's lowest is $83+10 shipping, and newegg is a much better store than dell. Now I'll have 512 megs for my ipaq!!!

Is there something bad about Mr. Flash???

This is a good deal for use with a digital camera. However read speeds will affect things that are either acting in real time (ex MP3 player), or that are accessing the data in a random pattern (ex ipaq IA-1 with Win98 on a CF memory card).

Here is a list of times for a bunch of Flash Cards when they are used to make a JPEG movie on a Dimage camera. The Kingston and Mr Flash cards mentioned in this thread are shown on the list.

I realize that read and write times are typically different, but the Kingstons 2x faster write speed (when compared to the Mr Flash) is most likely indicative that it will have better read performance.

It's an OK deal for some people...and someone did say it's a good deal.

>>>Is there something bad about Mr. Flash???

Yeah; some cameras don't like Mr. Flash, and it's not the fastest card, and I guess that support wouldn't be as good as with Kingston or some other major brands.

Anybody know any coupons or CODES for Newegg?
Does Ebates or any rebate refunders work with them?

I have a 64mb.. and a 128mb..
use the 64 in my camera.. and 128mb in my ipaq..

have 2 8mb (throwaway) that came with my digital cams..

sigh..
to buy or to wait till 256 price drops and 512mb cards come out?

FYI not to trash the product but I bought a Mr.Flash 128mb and when I tried to use it in my digital camera ( Kodak DC3400 ) , the camera wouldn't turn on. The kodak 8mb card that came with it works, theres been mixed reports of the mr.flash cards working in the kodak dc3400. just a heads up.

Thanks for the post. Now, we really need to start a thread along the lines of "All-Time Obscure Metaphors for 'Hot' in Hot Deals Postings".

Guinea pigs...?

By the way, the site is now showing a price of $90 before shipping.

Some cameras only work with certain brand CF cards...The Mr. Flash cards are just as good as any other IMO.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about read speeds of Mr. Flash cards with an iPaq. I use one of their 128MB cards to play MP3s on my iPaq with no problems at all.

Codeloss, take a looksee at the Daisy Diva 128 meg MP3 player. My wife got one for Xmas and we previously had a Diamond Rio 500. Its very similar, but with twice the onboard memory, and after picking up the Mr. Flash 128 meg CF card from Newegg, she has a 256 meg mp3 player. The CF card also works in her Kodak DX3500 with no problems. And it can also be used in her Ipaq 3135 to store mp3s since the mp3 player is already loaded with 128 megs. Diva info is below:

PROS:
very small and CF slot allows easy addition of (very common and CHEAP) CF card
it stores a LOT of songs compared to other players
functions as an additional drive w/ drag n drop ease of use. You can store ANY type of file on the player and copy it to a work PC.

CONS:
very small screen only shows 6 characters so the song scrolls back n forth
it is a bit flimsy but not to the point I would not recommend it
does not support WMA files

Diva mp3 player link

After buying the 128 CF card, I kinda wish I would have sprung for the 256 card, but even still, the wife can take 200 pictures on the camera and store 75 songs on the mp3 player, so she is VERY happy.
