Assuming this is an error in their coupon system, has Staples ever been the victim of thousands of orders they can't fulfill before?

If so, what do you think their most likely action will be for the people who ordered?

I don't know what they're going to do... I'm not sure how their processing is handled, but unless they had the foresight to add an ability to search for coupon codes in their orders database, they can't really do much to not-honor the orders short of stopping all shipments of the product which might have been made legitimately...

Of course, this is speculation. Anyone knows how Staples order system works?

just put in the order by phone. They were out of stock of the graphite, but on my second call got a csr who found me a green one. 10 minutes later checked my order status online from the order number issued - it said all items EXCEPT visor - phoned staples back, spoke to a supervisor who tried to fob us off with excuse ' coupon took off too much money - was only for $60 software value, not -$149.98. I was polite but firm and GOT the deal

Moral of the tale - its worth phoning a supervisor and insisting on your goods, nicely of course. I got mine, so can you.

their mostly likely action is to cancel anything they decide not to send u and send u all the other crap..ie the sowtware..that's how staples works

Just called to check on my order, CSR said he'd have to call me back.
Got a call back from the Staples CEO who told me that I was being fraudulent or some crap.

What I hate is them not giving any notice they have cancelled some of your items.
next thing you know, you've got some nasty items on your hands that are regularly priced since you now didn't meet the coupon/rebate requirement. Happened to me before ...

me ytoo..on 2 occasions..then u gotta go through hassle or returning..and in the end staples pays the cost or both way shipping.it's just retardedness on staples part..and their hoping u don't return, maybe too lazy or soemthing

I called into Staples Direct to ask for availability of the Visor Deluxe and the CSR immediately informed me of the "coupon pricing error" on the website the moment I mentioned the SKU. I just played dumb and asked the CSR to explain what was meant by coupons and free software. Anyway, it seems they were tipped off by masses calling in to pricematch the green and orange Visor Deluxe (which were mispriced on the website and the only ones left in stock). Not that it's a big deal, Staples would have noticed sooner or later anyway (though the later is is realized, the more would have already been shipped out).

In the end, when the CSR asked me if I still wanted to place the order I continued to play dumb and said, "Wow, free software sounds good! But I really wanted blue, can you check around the stores in Manhatten for me?". The CSR replied, "If you want, you can call back later. I'm sure there will be a few in blue with the order cancellations.".

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

I called in to get credited for the 50 dollar difference for my orange unit. The CSR didn't say anything about a coupon error of anykind, he was actually very nice and mentioned that alot of people have been calling in because of the pricing error (orange for 199 instead of 149)

Woohoo! Got it adjusted on my second purchase also. Looks like there are some CSRs who are nice and some who aren't (I prefer nice over clueless or uninformed)...

They couldnt post it like that and expect it to be used only by certain customers, which is the rationale behind the no coupon code policy on the hotdeals forum as I understand it.

Deal is dead guys,

If you check the order status, not order history, order status is where you enter the order number and zip code to get the delivery date, the visor was removed, and coupon, only the crappy software and a mouse I ordered, my total was over $100, but they even removed the $20 off, called them, right off the bat they said the visor code was a mistake, they are getting us back by sending us the crappy software, so cancel before you have to return it later with a drive to staples, luckily no shipping charges.

I still see 2 shipments in 'order status.' One has the Handspring visor, the other has the two pieces of software. They are still in the &quot;processing&quot; status.

My Order Status only shows the software.
I called a Staples CSR (on the phone right now actually) and he said that the Visor I ordered (Blue) is out of stock. He's currently checking the status to see which ones are in stock.
I'll let you know how it turns out
