So is OP going to confirm what the heck he is talking about? It says antenna for $75 but the discussion is on a receiver. Obviously this is hot if its the receiver, but who knows? OP sure doesn't want to elaborate, I guess too much energy was spent on the link. Oh wait...

Anyone know how the picture quality and reception sensitivity of this HDTV tuner is?

(I currently own an ATI HDTV Wonder with it's Silver Sensor clone indoor antenna, as a reference)

I bought one of these a few months back and ended up returning it. I lived too far from local HD stations to make it worthwhile, but can give some input since I used it as well as a tuner that came with the EDTV I got. The tuner works pretty well, but it easily loses the signal and then takes a while to find it again. The tuner built in to my EDTV seems more stable, but since the antennaes were at different places, they probably work about the same. They are usuallly priced at about $200, so $75 is a pretty good deal. If you need an external tuner and live close enough to HD broadcasters it should work well. I researched it when I had it and there were many favorable reviews by people living well within range of local stations. I received 2 stations, only one of which was HD, so I returned mine.

Hmm, already have an OTA tuner but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this for an alternative to cable.

I would buy a Directv HD tuner. They can be had on ebay for about the same price with shipping, but the OTA tuners are really good. I have a H10 and Samsung SIR-TS360 and it works way better than my DVICO Fusion 3 and 5. Signal is stable and picture is way better than the PC OTA cards. I'm getting almost 20 OTA digital channels now that are 30 miles away. With my PC cards, I was lucky to get 4, with poor picture quality and stuttering and freezing.

Good price on the hd tuner if you can get it, but you definitely do not want this service to succeed.

Basically they will be chopping up the bandwidth allotted to each local broadcaster so they can do this multicasting.
Multicasting means no hidef, so insted of one glorious pristine hidef picture, they will split the bandwidth to give you 5 or more crappier than crap over compressed sd channels.

Say no to muticasting.

"I would buy a Directv HD tuner."

I've got an ATI HDTV Wonder, which is supposed to have a very good and sensitive HDTV tuner.

Is the Directtv HD tuner that much better?

Also, is there a particular model to get?

I went to the Walmart here (St. Charles, MO) this morning and it was tagged at $169. Confirmed by price check at the register...
If anyone in the St. Louis area happens to find them for $75, let me know!

If you're looking for a cheap OTA tuner, also check ebay for old VOOM hdtv satellite boxes. Just confirm with the seller that it was still active and receiving OTA signals after VOOM service shut down.

I don't have a HDTV Wonder, just the Fusion 3 and 5. The HD tuner in the two directv boxes I have are way better. They pick up everything, and its crystal clear with no stuttering of freezes. While I don't have the ATI card I'll go out on a limb and say a Directv HD box is better, minus the PVR functionality. Well, you could buy a Directv HD dvr with HD Tuner, but its like over $500 if you dont get the service.

As for a particular model, I can vouch for the samsung SIR-TS360 and H10. The samsung can be found for around $100 shipped from ebay, and also does analog cable tuning. Thats the one I use the most. It even has a guide that works with OTA HDTV. The H10 maybe overkill, but I got it barely used off ebay cheap and figured I'd sell the one I dont like. Well, I really like them both! Sold both my Dvico Fusion cards tho.

This is NOT expensive and is a great deal if you can find one. This is not the best HDTV tuner out there, but for $75 it is well worth it. (Do a google search for reviews.) Plus you can return it if it does not work. I would be all over this if I had any chance of receiving an OTA HD signal without a 50 foot antenna.

This will definitely be a YMMV deal since this is a B&M clearance item.
