I just signed up for the comcast deal (live in chicago area) If you dont have TV cable already its $30 a month for 6 months, then jumps to $58. Also an install fee of $30. But there is a FREE cable modem AR.

Too bad you didnt start this thread 3 days ago

Earthlink link was broken. Fixed link.. However, this page says it's 19.95/mo x 6. Can you provide a working link to the $14.95 offer?

Must be nice to live in a competitive HSI area. The ATL duopoly (Bellsouth, Comcast) is major SUCK-O-RAMA.

Check these guys out...

DSL EXTREME

$12.95/month for the first year. 1500/384 (faster plans also available)
A- rating across the board at DSLReports.com, Six Month Rating 88%
Compare to...
SBC, Average of B/B+, Six Month Rating 77%

I have had service with DSL Extreme for nearly two years now. Excellent tech support! The techs actually understand networking terminology and are very helpful. My service has been rock solid for more than a year. I have had to reboot my modem about 3 times in the last 12 months, but thats it. As I am not a new customer, I currently pay $24.95 a month. However, it is worth it IMO. Heck, they were nice enought to offer me the option to end service, then start service again in order to get the cheap intro rate. They said they would even offer free dial up during the down time...but two weeks without DSL was going to be too long for me.
In conclusion, they are really focused on the user. Check em out and feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about this ISP.

verizon is only 768k for the 14.99 plan. dsl extreme wants to charge 39.99 with a 100 dollar activation fee. i guess it depends on location.

I think I still had to pay for cable run ~$30 (new house) and self install was free oviously.

I know that Adelphia was completely bought out in pieces by Comcast and Time Warner. When are they going to drop the Adelphia name and finally migrate all those customers to their respective systems?

It must have been a typo on my part. It's always been $19.95. My apology.

I've been with SBC for a little over a year now (just agreed to a new 1yr contract). While I don't get the price listed above because it's for new customers only, I can say I've got absolutely 0 complaints.

As a FPS gamer, ping times and dropped packets (packetloss) matter greatly. With cable (5M down 384K up) I was dealing with constant packetloss in the evenings and ping times that fluctuated from 50ms to 120ms depending on the time (to the same server, 3hrs from my house). Since the switch to SBC I've gotten a consistent 24ms ping with 0 packetloss regardless of time of day or weather. I think it's been down once and a reboot of the modem resolved that.

At 13K feet I'm a little far from the C.O. to get their pro speed, but Toaster in the SBC Direct forums at www.broadbandreports.com worked with me until we got to the point he was ready to test it. I've been on the Pro plan ever since (around one year now).

Thats what they say. BUT, many many people have been able to get re-rated to the new price. Especially if you have say the 1.5mbit plan and you call them and tell them you want to upgrade (thats the magic word) to the 3 mbit plan for $18.
SD has a big thread with success stories, usually if you get turned down you can just call a differant day and get someone else and get it changed.

I think I'm going to do the same. That $50 will make up a big chunk of the earily termination fee I will have to pay Verizon.
