Starting in 95, the Accord SE's are actually nothing more than upgraded LX models.

None of them compares to the 93SE models, the last of its kind, the actual flagship accord for that year. Had the ABS, Bose system, passenger airbag, body colored side trim, and the most luxurious grain leather seats. It's a shame the SE models now are just in the middle of the lineup.

*grumble* I told my parents to NOT pay more than invoice...

*sigh* but you know how it is trying to share a hot deal with non-hot dealing type people...they'll kill it...and agreed to pay the dealer a commission on top of the Camry they bought...

Oh well, at least it was a newly redesigned camry =) although I'd have gone for this deal myself since that's a BIG chunk of change between the two of them(although we did get the ABS upgrade for the Camry...no moonroof or alloy though, nothing snazzy)...

damn, I'm up for buying a car myself now...been looking all over, but don't actually have enough cash for this car on hand... Nice deal though, plus I'm sure the resell is still killer, regardless of the fact that the 2003 is a redesign...

Now the car I REALLY want though, is the MazdaSpeed Protege(the new revision of the Protege MP3)...they kicked the engine up a notch with a turbo, added a limited slip, and umm renamed the thing so people tired of technology age names like MP3 will buy it

OK, I am going to buy an Accord SE or EX as my FIRST car, on July 24th, 2002 (yes, that's less than a month away). I am in Washington DC, and the best price I have for the SE is $17400 from College Park Honda in MD. Now my question will be, since the 2003 Accord is in the corner, by July 24th, would it POSSIBLE to get the SE out of door for $18,000 (chage me whatever fee you want, and tax is in there)? Or I am just out of line? Also, whoever just purchased an Accord SE or EX, can please post a detailed breakdown of your Out Of Door Price? Thank you very much for helping me as a car newbie. Sorry, I only deal with computer networks...

SmoothJR most likely it shouldn't be that hard to pull it off, possibly even CHEAPER by then if the dealers haven't managed to dump them yet...on the other hand if all these hotdeals folks get to the cars....

I thought the same thing too, College Park Honda here in DC, they said they have more than 1500 Accord (all models), and I don't think they can sell 50 cars a day can they?

Anyway, let's keep this thread up and I will post my hunt result if I got some sort of coupon or something:Q

SmoothJR - I bought a 2002 Honda Accord SE for $17,244 (includes the $495 destination fee) as an advertised loss leader in the local newspaper. I'm not sure how taxes work since Oregon has NO SALES TAX.

If you can wait even longer, the two BEST days to buy a new car are December 20th (Friday before Christmas) and December 31st (last day of the year). By then the newly redesigned 2003 Honda Accord's will be in the showrooms and being sold. Who knows you might even get a 2002 SE for $17,500 out the door after all the fees, etc. So if you can wait, then definitely wait until the end of the year.

If you'd like to see a loss leader ad, I'd be more than happy to snail mail you one (no scanner sorry) PM me your address and I'll mail it Monday. When you PM me tell me which make/model/trim cars you're interested in.

I agree with OJEDAWC that Hondas are not built for speed, but are built for realiability.

I'd still pick an '02 Accord over a '02 Millenia any day. Even an unsuspecting customer should figure out something is going on when a car's going for $10K under MSRP.

Honda does have the S2000. That's a competent roadster.

I'm curious, at the price point being talked about for the Accord, what car OJEDAWC could pick up that would satisfy his need for speed without comprimising everywhere else.

Hmmm

I am surprised the Honda Accord does not come with ABS standard. ABS has been out a long time, and IMO is an important safety feature... especially for people not used to having a car skid/slide on them. People in the North have it happen to them all the time (I used to live near Erie, Pa), but people further south rarely get used to the feel of their car skidding to a stop on a wet road etc.

Uh...ABS has actually been proven to make a car stopping distances longer. Basically it's not all cut up to be. The main advantage, control while breaking, but it makes stopping slower....

ABS was standard on 2000 model year Accord SEs. Seems like they traded ABS for the moonroof. I hear a lot of complaints about how troublesome it is to regularly clean a moonroof (if you use it) so I'd rather have ABS. The SE is really nothing more than an LX with a discounted option package; it's more or less worth it.

just picked up an SE around 3 months ago. got it for around $18,000 with a bunch of extra options like extended warranty, HOnda alarm, etc. they tried to gouge us, saying that the trim was gonna cost an extra $400. yeah right. told them to take it off lol, they obviously can't so gave it to us for $50.

nice utility car, still drive my Mercedes around for events and stuff, but the gas mileage on these Honda's are great!

Here is a stupid question: Shouldn't auto sales tax equals to sales tax? I asked this question since different dealer here in DC, MD and VA charge me different percent of tax. I have a DC Liscense, sales tax in DC is 5.5%, so correct me if I am wrong, no matter where I purchse my car, I should be charged the same DC retail sales tax, 5.5%, right?

Not disputing about the longer stopping distances but...

I will never get a car without ABS

My experience:

I know how to drive in rain/snow, before getting my honda I drove in newengland for 10 years, including two years of driving 45 miles to school in a Datson 210. Not a single accident but some really close calls.

I moved to colorado and got a new 1993 honda accord with ABS.

While in colorado I spent three years driving 60 miles, to work. While at first the ABS took some getting used to (pumping the breaks makes it worse), once you know how to use ABS, it is truely a god send.

I lost count of the number of big SUVs I passed wrecked on the side of the road during major (and not so major) snow/ice storms. There at least two times when ABS prevented an accident and possibly saved my life......

In recent news, BMW of North America recently announced "50% off all cars on dealers' lots".

trikster2:

You don't make your argument very well. You say you drove 10 years without it, and had no accidents....then drove a bunch of years with it and still haven't had an accident. Just because you see SUV's in the ditch doesn't mean in has anything to do with ABS.....It's usually because they are driving too fast for the conditions...

Damn, I want one of these cars....

Oh, really. I can't so that the dealer mark up is by 100%. If so, start a new thread on it. Not.

i don't know about there, but in Cali it is equal to sales tax. 7.75% for both.

but i think each state has autonomy to decide what it wants to do. can be none, same, or different.

Must be a good deal. This hasn't brought out the thread crapping that is almost always seen in automobile deal threads!

I'll just have to limp along a few more years with my 1999 Camry. At that time, Camry pricing was better than Accord pricing plus my knee hit the Accord's steering column!

Rossman - keep in mind the prices you saw are being quoted by dealers. They won't actually get that much, and a private party sale or trade-in won't fetch that much. You might want to look at Edmunds for a more realistic pricing.

Cheers,
MN

MegaNerd - With proper care your 99 Camry should easily go for 20 years or 300,000 miles whichever hits first.

Congratulations, numatrix!
I am moving to Maryland in August and planning to buy a new car there. I do like Honda Accord a lot and wish to get a deal then.
Can you share you hunting-purchasing experience here?
Did you search the MSRV and invoice price online before went to the dealer's? Did you know http://www.fightingchance.com? They'll fax you the invoice prices of cars with a charge of $20. It seems that they can provide you the price info of a car with their research in the market. Did you even try to get such info before buying?
With so much info online, I am a little confused about which I should believe. So your sharing of your real experience are greatly appreciated

I'm not making an "argument" just relaying my experience that ABS is an important safety feature, based on 20 years of driving. In my second 10 years of driving I drove four times the miles in much more "dicey" conditions (colorado and the beltway made back woods CT look like a childs play ground).

I would never try to save a few hundred and give up ABS. But hey your mileage may vary, especialy if you live some place with booring wx like CA.

And I never said I did not get in an accident my second 10 years. Even ABS would not help my Accord when a huge pickup truck rear ended it while sitting at a stop light. A big fast engine might have helped then, but my wife would not buy that excuse and let me trade it in for a viper..........

Welcome to Maryland!
My car shopping experience with Honda dealers have always been pleasant. This is usually because I know what I want before going into the dealership. Thanks to excellent buying resources like Edmunds.com, I use the TMV (True Market Value) to gage my purchase price. I am usually willing to allow the dealer to make a profit (very small). The TMV is a good place to start. In my experience, a couple of hundred dollars above or below the TMV is a good price in my opinion. Of course as the buyer, below market value is always better. It usually depends on the demand of the vehicle on where the dealer will be willing to discount the car.

As most folks have suggested, it is usually better to shop at the end of the month if possible. If you are shopping for a Honda in Maryland, I highly recommend Odonell Honda. This is the 3rd purchase (ironically, all Accords) in my family over the last 12 months at Odonell Honda. They also have 20% discount off parts on Saturday. Ask for Nicole in sales. We have dealt with her on all the purchases and have had more than a pleasant shopping experience with her. Tell her Wayne sent you and have her throw in a set of well locks for free, maybe even free mud guards. I believe Odonnell is the volume sales leader in the Baltimore region and they are willing to provide deeper discounts than other dealerships. Anderson Honda is also pretty good, they are in Baltimore City. If you do choose Odonnell and work with Nicole and want to cut to the chase, ask her what the bottom line she is willing to part with the car. For the most part, she will give you the best possible deal she can.

The Accord EX price that we got last year was $20,500.00 with freight included. The only thing that was missing was MD taxes. Last year, this was a good price. I'm sure you can knock off 500-600 dollars for an Accord on it's last model year car. The current Accord SE deal is over, but I'm sure if you went in to the dealership and asked her for it she may be willing to work something out.

Good Luck!
