I went to BB after work yesterday and there were 7 of these for $524 and the other BB had 3 (1 of them were optimized by Geek for $30 extra).

I thought about it but didn't get it. I read that some got it for $449 -$100 HIS coupon = $349. If you could post or PM me a scan of your receipt, that would be great to PM. TIA.

Has the Charlotte store drop the price another $100 as some other stores have?

The Independence location is out of stock. The Pineville store has them in stock, but they said it was $679. Really don't think the guy knows what he is talking about. The Mid Town location is supposed to call me back once their system gets back up today.

It may show as $679 in the system, but once you have a rep scan the item - it should reflect the clearance price.

I ordered mine online when it was $699 and when I got to the store, once the rep scanned it, it came up @ $449.

hope this helps

I got price adjustment on only ONE of my two that I bought (for me and my wife). I had used the HSI coupon and when I went back in they said the coupon wasn't valid but that they'll leave it on one notebook and do the price drop on the second one only (from $525 to $450). Meh.

Not a totally wasted trip though, got $81 back ($75+tax) that I didn't expect when I purchased them, and the three chicks at the CS desk were all eye candy.

I am about to head out to the local BB with a receipt copy <thanks Dennis885) for $350 (after $100 HIS coupon) plus sale tax and another poster from SD said the price was falling to $300 after coupon. Guess I will wait until next week and get it for $10? LOL

On the serious note, will this laptop <spec wise> get any better and cheaper from now until Feb of 2009? <I will be on a long trip out and need a laptop). Just don't want to buy this and a few months later <especially BF), another laptop with better specs and even lower price showing up. I don't need a laptop right now.

My best buy tells me that the price is $636 when I call them, and when I go to the store and have them look up the price, again $636. Will this possibly ring up cheaper at the register or is my BB just fucking with me and everyone else in the area by not clearancing these as much as others.

Well, only one way to find out. Take it to the register and if it doesn't ring up for the clearance price (assuming they didn't throw in the extra Geek Squad crap) then tell them you don't want it.

I went to the Northgate BB to try to score another one, and the price had gone up to $600. On top of that, the only ones left had the geek squad upgrades, which added another $150 to the total ($750 OTD).
The BB's in this area only pricematch to local (WA) stores.

Just bought another 3 at $450, since my locals BB's here in Colorado Springs didn't have any more, called up another one that had them in stock and I'm having them do a transfer of merchandise to my BB here in the Springs.

The store I'm doing this from originally had 13 a day or so ago, but I forgot BB does the transfer thing and didn't call them...damn...could have grabbed 13 of them at $450

none available anywhere near dallas. had to drive to N. Garland only to find out the inventory didn't get a timely update. Some small towns near Houston seemed to have a quite a few of these though.

There were a few in Chicago yesterday. I got one in North berbs at 450. There were some around at 625 but they would not match price. I am moving to .CH and thought I would sell it for a little profit.

They told me the price was set by the volume of sales at a given store. The store 3 miles from home was 625. The one 14 was 525. I asked them to check availability at other stores and I could see the different prices at various stores. One store was supposed to have them and when I got there they were out. The associate said "Your store would not price match?" The next store down the road had several at 525. Prices in the area were all over the place.

Here in north Texas, there are 25 BestBuy stores in a 50 miles radius. Clearance prices vary from one store to the next, and none of the stores will pricematch clearance items. Nor will they transfer clearance merchandise from one store to the next, even if the price is exactly the same at both stores. If you buy a clearance item at one store and try to return it a store that has a lower price (so you could buy it back at the lower price, for example), they usually will not accept the return.

BestBuy isn't "screwing" with you. They are simply maintaining the integrity of their pricing. They have every right to do that. They don't have to lower their prices just because you want them to. Nobody has to do that.

wtf r u talking about?
integrity of their pricing? yer being funny right?

Ive gotten this at 4 different bb and they all have tried everything they could to stop you from giving them money to get this product.

all 4 had no idea how to deal with the hsi coupon, even though it was listed right in their weekly sales flier. And no i didn't "cheat", i actually signed up for the internet service, everything waqs legit, i really wanted the fios service and i wanted to buy the laptop.

bb has no integrity, or any clue.
they are screwing with you, each and every time you walk in their doors.

It all boils down to one stupid factor, and that's that each Best Buy store is on their own for how they price their clearance items. If there was a universal clearance price set by the Best Buy Corporation, people wouldn't be getting screwed over by pricing differences from store to store. Instead they leave it up to managers and some are bigger idiots then others when it comes to pricing clearance items.

Why do you say they're "idiots"? Just because they don't have the same prices on their clearance items as the stores that have the lowest prices? Here's a leading question. Are they "idiots" for not having the same prices as the stores that have the HIGHEST prices? If all of their prices were the same at every store, something tells me you wouldn't be happy about it. You wouldn't find these super bargains at ANY of their stores. They would be consistent, though. Would that make you happy?

Their prices are actually set according to a complex set of rules that take the sales volume of each store into account. I wouldn't expect someone who doesn't work at BestBuy to understand their procedures, but just because you don't understand their procedures, that doesn't make them "idiots".

No, I'm being serious. Every retailer has the right to set their own prices. I mean, duh.

As for their pricematch policy, BestBuy is not required by law to match prices; it's just something they offer to make themselves more competitive. Their pricematch policy clearly states that they do not pricematch clearance items. How hard is that to understand? Why does anyone expect them to do something that is: 1) not required by law, 2) not industry standard practice, and 3) in violation of their own policies? Some people really are clueless when it comes to business.

I'm sure they would sell their merchandise to you for their stated prices. Sounds like you're the one who's keeping you from giving them your money.

Seriously, I commend you for not trying to cheat them by claiming you wanted internet service without intending to get it. When a customer signs up for internet service at the store, BestBuy receives a rebate from the service provider. When people use a fake coupon, BestBuy does not receive the rebate, so BestBuy is getting screwed. That's like telling them, "You have to give me $100 off, but you won't get your rebate, suckers." And people have the nerve to call BestBuy a "thief".

Anyway, it's not uncommon for store employees at ANY store to be unfamiliar with what's printed in their weekly ads. For example, my parents bought a range at Sears recently and tried to use a 10% off coupon that I gave them, and the people at the store had no idea how to handle it because they had never seen it before. It was on the Sears.com website, but the computers in their stores are not connected to their Sears.com website, and they couldn't look it up at the store. I honestly don't believe they were trying to cheat my parents; they simply didn't know what they were supposed to do. It was frustrating, but they don't deserve to burn in hell or anything like that.

Sounds like you need to stop buying things from them. If I felt the way you do, I'd never shop at BestBuy. Why do you keep going there? I mean seriously, wtf?

Good points jiffer, I bought 2 of these at the standard clearance price of $525 one in a Dallas store and one in a Tyler store, had absolutely zero issues, one for myself and one for a friend who badly needed one. Did not bother with the coupon, as it did not agree with my personal book of ethics. Also did not try to buy 10 to put them up on ebay and craigslist as I think that will be like cheating people who really needed one but found it suddenly "out of stock".

EDIT: BTW Thanks a lot OP for posting it here, you have made both me and my friend extremely happy

they are idiots because they dont know what they are doing.

I waited on 3 separate lines, once at the laptop displays, then geeks desk, then at customer service. finally got signed up at geeks.

The whole time i was saying why does it take so long to take my money? I worked in retail when i was in college, and one of the main things they taught me was to make it easy for the customer to hand you their cash. bb does not do that, its a frigging fight each and every time.

The other 3 times i went, I figured they would have things figured out, but the same nonsense, shuttling back and forth to someone who knew how to sign up for the coupon. At this point I knew way more about their "procedures" than they did.

Again, there are 3 fios installs coming, for my sister, her office, and at my house. No 4th since right before checking out, they said all remaining units were "optimized".. i dont think i have to say any more there. is thief too strong? how about dishonest scumbags?
I followed the rules, I didnt cancel any of my installs, (since I want this service!) I didnt use any scanned coupons.

So its ok because other are idiots everywhere? you example sucks, this was not a difference between online and bm, the coupon was clearly stated on the bm circular. not hidden, not a footnote discount, it had a whole half page by itself.
bb employees are idiots, plain and simple.

As for each store doing its own thing, thats great if they are all independent, but we are talking about a chain store. Fine set the price different based on sales, but for crying out loud, the coupon policy, price matching, and all kinds of crap is based on the whims of whomever is there at the time.
I assume this is also part of some complicated formula that is incomprehensible unless you possess the large cranium of a bb employee?
