Damn! Looks like I waited too long to order. I'm stuck at "order received" instead of shipped. I might be stuck having to wait until they get a new shipment in. At least I got one at this price, hopefully they don't cancel.

They are the same price ($109) at Fry's in Wilsonville, Oregon. No sales tax in Oregon...he he

So is there really no difference between a 5400 and 7200? How come there is such a big price difference? How about the difference between ATA100 and ATA133? I guess if I put 2 of these in a RAID, it should make up for the difference right?

I just received the same email.
I ordered 3 on Sunday morning when it was listed as "in stock and will ship within 1-2 days".
They now say they have no definite shipping date.

Hmmm....

Webpage still says $109, call for availability. Just called Outpost, was told price is now $149 and is in stock. Was told the $109 price is for the backorders only. Just a heads up for those of you who placed orders. I will go with the Staples/Maxtor 80 GB 7200 rpm ata 133 drive.

I ordered on Sat morning and mine came on Tuesday. Haven't installed it yet but I regret not buying another one. Now I'm at a paltry 300 gigs ha!

Wonder if this means those of us who have the drive backordered, will be getting ours next week.
Seems logical that if the drives are back in stock, but who knows.

Edit: Looks like mine shipped. No tracking # yet though.

I ordered at 2am on the 12th and my order hasn't been cancelled yet (THANK GOD) and the status is still "Received Order Item".

Ordered a second 31 hours later (for the math challenged, 9am on 13th) and it was CANCELLED. Got an e-mail stating
Please note that the item(s) listed below have been removed from
your order per your request to Customer Service or because the
item is no longer available from the manufacturer.

And they gave me a phone number to call for a replacement item.

I don't think companies should be able to pull this crap, I mean how can they process the order and send you confirmation, then days later say "oops, we're out" or "oops, our mistake, price was wrong".

What prevents online companies from offering huge discounts, getting hundreds of thousands of orders, cancelling all of them, and just harvesting all the e-mail addresses, phone numbers and mailing addresses? I'm sure 100,000 valid e-mail addresses with phone #'s and shipping addresses would sell for a pretty penny....

1 terabyte by the end of this year? Shouldn't be too hard with multiple drives, 120gig is already less than $140 shipped, and 80gigs is almost under $1 per gig SHIPPED. I'm sure by the end of the year you'll be able to buy 1 terabyte worth of drives for less than $1000 shipped; I predict $800, which works out to 120gigs for a little less than $100.

We'll see if I'm right
