It's a very noticeable difference. You're best off visiting your local CompUSA or Best Buy to compare WXGA and WSXGA resolutions side by side for yourself. For me the WSXGA resolution is the best of both worlds. I don't have perfect 20/20 eagle eye's vision (WUXGA won't work) and I hate huge blocky icons/text ... so the WSXGA is a nice middle ground.

To whom it may concern: IMHO the 6000d is a great machine. I bought one with a $600 coupon off a few weeks ago - quite a bit cheaper than 9300, and not as bulky and heavy, yet same chipset = same basic performance (with the exception of the video card which is not offered with 256MB (yet?))

A couple of specifice points of advice:
I would not get UXGA -WSXGA is bright enough and better native resolution for most applications + you save $100 or so. Screen is OK though not as bright as some of the recent HP or Sony models, but that never bothered me
To run in dual channel mode you need 2 sticks of RAM (e.g. 2x256). Even though more $$$ the 1x512 option is slower.
The 53WHr battery gives me about 2:30-3:00 of life 80WHr would be nicefor about 4:00
The 60GB/7200RPM HDD makes quite a difference in boot time and other disc specific applications - highly recommended.

my opinion: 2 year warranty by itself is useless... if you get it, then pair it with accidental coverage for spills/drops/breaks
802.11a/b/g card undeeded... stick with the 2200b/g card

my config go as follows... some upgrades are partly because i needed to hit the 1500$ price mark.. otherwise i would have saved on the CPU, etc

Pentium M 2.0Ghz (to hit price-point, and for future resale possibilities)
XP Home (can get XP Pro legit for 5$)
256MB Ram (self upgrade w/ crucial)
80GB Hd (id like to carry my mp3s and divx movies with me when travelling... also for resale possibilities w/o having to tamper with laptop)
8x CD/DVD-RW (dont have dvd on my computer)

I hear ya. I'm disappointed in this year's model line myself. Same speed Pentium-M's (maybe 200Mhz faster), more expensive DDR2 RAM, and no decent 3D in anything except the 9300. Even then, it's a big jump from the X300 to the GeforceGo 6800. At least the Inspiron 8600 had the ATI 9600 which was faster than the X300. There's still some good deals to be had if you don't care about 3D performance.
