I am typically NOT a cheerleader, but for those still awaiting delivery, my 5160 (which was ordered around 6pm on the Dell Discount Day), was delivered this Tuesday morning.

While I wish it was the 9100 (which was OOS by 11am) and not the 5160, I am very satisfied.....though the Dell is NOT as well designed nor as sleek as the equivalent IBM Thinkpad Titanium. (but as mentioned above, it is about $1200 cheaper

I got my 9100 yesterday & immediatly installed WinXP Pro SP2. The sucker is heavy & the basic screen is not so exciting. Built quality is not so impressive either.

I ordered mine at 0600 sharp. Mine had an estimated ship date of 10/27, it shipped out on the 21st, and arrived on the 25th.

Unfortuneately, it shipped to my mother's house (no taxes in IN), so I have to wait a bit to get it from her.

They upgraded my processor as well to a 1.6 centino, perhaps they ran out of the 1.5?

so far so good, now selling my

My 700m is finally shipping. It's still en route to the carrier so I haven't gotten a tracking number yet. I was hoping to have it by Friday, but oh well, next week will do.

... and my 700m is still in PRODUCTION since Tueday, Oct. 19!!!! Projected shipping date is Nov. 10!! Should I call in and complain about this or is it normal?

When you get your laptop on the packing slip it will have your discount as a line item. Just make a copy of that, print out the rebate form and mail it in.

By the way I got my two 5160s yesterday. Hope I can sell them...

DELL needs to get some tips from Apple with the laptop design. It may add a few bucks per system. My 600M looks kinda antique.

I think ALL companies should take cues from apple design. If you think Dell is bad look at IBM laptops.

If dell build quality were better I'd prefer dells to ibms. The IBM styling is just really really 70's

Well the 8600 is

Height: 1.52-inch (38.6 mm)

Width: 14.22-inch (361.2 mm)

Depth: 10.79-inch (276.1 mm)

While the case Dimensions (WxDxH) - 15.7 in x 4 in x 13.7 in

So if the dimensions listed on the website is for the space for the laptop, it should fit fine.
