My order is in production and they said if I wanted the student discount I would have to cancel my order
then make another one through Dell's education,healthcare sector.

Wouldn't this void my 750 off?

How do I go about just letting Dell know that I am a student and to take the discount amount off the
total without cancelling?

I got essentially the same system, except for 1.6 SXGA+, XP Home, Radeon 9600, 24x CD-RW/DVD-ROM, Dell 1450 wireless a/b/g.

I don't get the deduction, however.

$886 before tax/shipping.

I feel better now when I orignally saw this thread my heart dropped since I got in on last weeks deal. But then I noticed when i reconfiged the same lappy i bougt last week. It was about $60 cheeper... I feel a lot better now.

Yes, that would void the coupon, definitely not worth it.

I'd suggest calling back, and hoping for a more receptive customer service rep.

I ordered the 1150 + 1905 as well; mine is at the boxing stage, but I suspect it will be there for a while (it has been like that since yesterday). Dell has to wait until their next shipment of 1905FPs comes in before they ship anything.

Dell support just told me they can't change the order at all without losing the $750 coupon. It must be possible though as some people are reporting. I guess it depends on what customer service rep you talk to.

For those of you who did get your order modified while keeping your coupon, did you call during business hours or at night?

I'm still 50/50 on it.... I've never had a laptop, so that would be cool, but I'm also not sure if I want to get rid of my desktop pc (which if I keep the laptop, I'll have to sell it). There are just alot more expandability for the desktops than a laptop. I guess one good way to look at it would be it would limit down my continous upgrades on my computer.

Mine is in boxing now (8600/WUXGA). And I ordered just 40 minutes before the 8600/700m deals were shut down.

I just returned my last 8600, but I received that one in just 3 days after status went to boxing. I hope this one comes Monday.

Damn this is twice now. The 5160 isn't a bad laptop it just isn't as good as the 8600.

If you want a fast workhorse and don't care about display/battery life it might actually be better.

I picked up the 700m. I want another one some girl at work told me she would give me $1000 for one. I went home ready to put 2 on the amex + the one I already had on the way but they were gone ;p At least I had enough sense to get one for myself. The credit cards are clean and if this deal happens again I WILL get like 3 or 4 and sell them localy far below retail
