Actually had the $750 off in my cart (Tues morning 6:30 a.m. CST), to replace the 30% off for the 8600 I ordered last Sunday evening 9:45 p.m. CST.

Called Dell, but CSR (had Indian accent) refused to adjust the 30% off to $750 off ($206.70 difference). He kept insisting that he couldn't apply the coupon 'cause it was for on-line use only.

Stupid of me, I should have canceled the 1st order and reordered another on-line.

Anyway just got a tracking #via UPS today. Saved $543.30 not $750. :frown:

Nope! No remorse at all.

I only wished I had gotten in on an 8600 but eh. Getting a loaded 600m for half price is good enough. What's even better is my company was willing to fork out the money for it...so...I did what any hot deal hunter would do: get another one! But by that time, 600ms weren't available anymore so I settled for an 1150 + 1901FP (19" LCD w/ 4 built-in USB ports and portrait viewing mode).

Because of this deal I'm loving Dell all over again. Any wrongs they did to me in the past are forgiven.

I got myself a 9100 but I think I probably would have been better off with the 8600. Is anyone that ordered an 8600 interested in swapping for a 9100 (with similar specs) PM me for details if your interested.

Oh and talking to Dell on the phone is colossal a waste of time. The customer service is bad beyond belief...

Why? I got a 9100 and really happy I did. Its a 3.2ghz Prescott 800fsb system. Its also alot more modifyable since its basically like an XPS system with, AFAIK is easier to swap the vid card, ram, HD, etc.
I dont understand why you think a 8600 is better? Its only supposedly like .5lbs lighter or something too... They are both tanks as far as I am concerned. Nothing I plan on carrying around. If I were, I would have gotten a 700m.

Same here.

I ordered the 1150 + 1905 as well; mine is at the boxing stage, but I suspect it will be there for a while (it has been like that since yesterday). Dell has to wait until their next shipment of 1905FPs comes in before they ship anything.

dammit, I ordered the 700ms at around 7 am PST.. its still says in production!

The 8600 wins on portability and battery life. If you're unwired often, it makes a difference.

For portability, I'd say the 600m or 700m are better.

I ordered mine within 20 minutes of the deal but my status is still in pre-production. Weird...

Must have a lot to do with the laptop you ordered. I ordered mine 6 minutes after the deal started and its now in testing stage.

Just checked again, it is now in testing stage. yay.

For those of you who did get your order modified while keeping your coupon, did you call during business hours or at night?

UPDATE: a first I thought my first order with Dell (8600) didn't go through (because the second one [8600 also, but different configuration] was within a half hour and I never got a confirmation for the first). I also submitted a change order request form (downgrade from 60GB > 30GB, remove quicksnap cover, total savings ~$100) which didn't get processed. This morning both the first order and the change to the other order were processed.

I didn't lose the $750 coupon even though I submitted a change order form. Of course, I submitted the change order while the deal was still active, it just took them forever to process it. YMMV. I'll probably call them once my orders are shipped to see if I can get a student discount, though I'm not betting on it since the deal was through Dell Home and not Dell Education.

And yes, try to figure something out with Dell over the phone is a waste of time; I probably spent a total of 3 hours on the phone with them since the deal started without anything getting accomplished.

Agreed but I'm not to crazy about the keyboard/small display.

Did you guys get Intel 2200 or Dell 1350 802.11b/g WiFi?

I went for the 2200, though I'm second-guessing that now, based on what I'm reading. I'm sure it'll be fine, though.

Went for 1350. Cheaper and I've heard good things about it compared to the Intel version.

For portability, I'm surprised that my Compaq X1000 is holding up as well as it has. It's a quarter-inch thinner than the 700M, and about the size of a legal sheet of paper (700M is closer to letter paper size).

But I get a consistent 4+ hours of battery life on the Compaq.

2 weeks ago I ordered an 8600 ($500 off + $200 rebate) and received it last week with a 2200. It worked fine (range and signal strength) for the week I had it. I also went for that one when I ordered the 8600 with the $750 off coupon. Dell offered me nothing to keep the first 8600, so I returned it.

4 hours battery life instead of 2 and 3 pounds lighter.. Thats the whole point of a laptop (atleast for me)

Yup, 8600 battery life > 9100 battery life by a long shot.

I went with the Intel card (so I "officially" have Centrino technology). Also, the earlier statement about Intel's card only being CCXv1 compliant and Dell's being CCXv2 compliant is untrue. The Intel card can be upgraded to CCXv2 via software. Supposedly longer battery life with the Intel card as well (uses less power?).

OK cool. Since this is meant to be a desktop replacement, then I dont care. I went for the most horse power. I just dont know much about the mobile processors.

Yes, the 1350 is based on Broadcom. I don't think it's based on the Orinoco like the earlier Dell Truemobile cards. Back then, the Dell was preferable to the 802.11b Intel Pro 2100. These days from what I've read, the Dell 1350 and the newer Intel Pro 2200 b/g are both good. Paired with a Pentium-M, I think the 2200 is supposed to have a small advantage in power savings. Otherwise, they're both supposed to have decent range and speed, so neither of them is a bad choice.
