I got this response e-mail after I tried to change my order (I wanted 64MB video instead of 32, on a 600m - I couldn't find the 64MB option when I first ordered). I'm glad - I'd rather have the PC as-is at the price I'm paying, than not have it at all:

I know the year isn't even over yet, but I am already nominating this as hands-down, the best deal of the year.

Well the 64mb on the 600m was about ~$43 more than the 32mb version. Took me a little bit to find the option too, but I got mine in for 64mb when i first placed my order.

As for purchasing the item separetely, i'm not sure how you'd do that since i heard the video on the 600m is part of the motherboard.

Yeah, I had tried to basically swap in the 64MB SKU in place of the 32. I would definitely have paid the additional $43 for the 64MB, but I doubt I'll do any serious gaming on the lappy anyway, so I guess the 32 will do OK.

it actually says that specifically in the small print in the customer agreement disclosures section (at leaset, that's what I heard - not sure if it's true though)

link?

There's no link because it doesn't exist. He's just doing his habitual modus operandi and taking a big old stinkin' crap in the thread.

It's actually a $50 difference ($43 reflects the nullified 15% off discount). I picked up the 64MB video RAM upgrade, but I doubt it does anything for gaming anyway. It's only a Mobility 9000 IIRC.

Cheap RAM for Inspiron 600M.

I will pay you $40 for the option to purchase YOUR confirmed 9100.

if your laptop comes with the option to upgrade the video cards from lets says a geforce 5200 32MB to a 64MB version, then the cards can be interchangable. but if you are trying to upgrade it to a radeon 9600 and it is not listed as an option, then it wont be possible.

well the biggest difference between using the 64mb radeon 9000 vs. the 32mb version on the 600m isn't really the 32mb difference, it's the memory bandwidth. The 32mb version only uses 64-bit memory bandwidth and the 64mb version uses 128-bit memory bandwidth.

found an automated # to call for updated order status -

800-433-9014

also - most people have been getting their systems shipped way before the stated "ship date," which is NOT updated no matter what.

:crossing fingers:

p.s., online says "InProduction" still w/no check marks beside any of the sub-steps, but the automated line says "Build" stage.

My order has been in the boxing stage for a while. I hope someone around the warehouse can find a box for me.

Mine still says that it's "In Production" with none of the subparts checked, so I assumed that it was still being "kitted" because the MR9800 were in short supply and caused 7-10 day delays. You'd think that because Dell has exclusive right to sell them they would have enough. I called the automated line and it says its in the "Build" stage. If that's true it should be quick. The last time I ordered it was in "Testing" by the morning after I ordered. Here's hoping...

My order has been in the boxing stage for a while. I hope someone around the warehouse can find a box for me.
Note that "Boxing" is a bit misleading. It includes shipping from Malaysia to the U.S., and thus takes quite a while.

Received my 30% off (not $750 off) Inspiron 8600 today, 61 hours after on-line order. Shipped from Austin, TX via UPS. As usual package was left outside the door. Kid can't wait.

My 700m is here.. it's mine... it's all miiiine.....

Edit: I love it to death... BUT if I had to change anything... this would be it.

Headphone jack in front... GOOD IDEA
No speaker jack in back or side... ANNOYING

2 USB Ports on left side... NICE
No USB Port on the right (for a usb mouse)...

Power cord on right side... good for some... but my power outlet is on my left...

The right shift key needs to be a little longer. But based on the keyboard layout, I guess it can't be helped.

Otherwise, it's quiet, fast, nice to look at and very light.

Edit #2: DEATH TO AOL.. my god it's everywhere on this computer.

Yah im dropping a new hardrive in my 700m first thing and then doing a clean install (probably turn it on and run some tests first and burn it in just to make sure there are no problems). I hate dell so much that it makes this deal even sweeter. Anything to take them deep is great.
