Becareful, Dell refurbs sometimes have Dead pixels. or 1000s of damaged SUB-pixels

You can check by looking at a completely black screen, and notice some small greenish specks on the screen, because the green portion of certain pixels are damaged despite the whole pixel still working ^_^

I bought a 30" Dell refurb. Was just fine. I guess its the luck of the draw.

My DELL refurb monitor periodically would insist that there's no signal from the system and go into power save mode...

Anyone know the policy on the outlet? Can you return it if you don't like it like the regular site?

I would love to get one of these badasses. Really, I think I'd be fine with a 24" but those models seem to be lacking in one way or another (everything except u2410 and zr24 seem to be 16:9, and the aforementioned monitors supposedly have problems here and there).

But as tempting as it is, $950 (taxes and what not) is just a bit too much for me to spend on a big ticket item right now. Gahhhhh!

Nice deal, assuming they have the same no dead pixel policy on refurbs. I got mine for $1100 or so shipped and do not regret the money spent. After having upgraded from a 20" to this, I think a 24" would have been too small, so I'm glad I went straight for the 30".

Your monitor will probably outlive your rig. Anyone on the fence about the price, just view it as a good investment that will last.

from dell website

"Dell Outlet gives you the same limited hardware warranty1 and service as if you bought new, plus we offer a 21-day return policy on all Dell Outlet products."

for this 30" it's 3 year advance replacement warranty.

buy with confidence. I've bought referb and used for years without problems

Just for those wondering, Refurb does not mean it was broken/anything wrong with it. A returned product automatically is a refurb product because its not new anymore. Thats retail training for you

I've noticed this too on mine, but only when I reset my system. It will go into power save mode for about 5 seconds, then turn back on when the BIOS screen comes up.

There is conflicting information, but the warranty is apparently only 90 days.

I just checked the service tag on the 3007wfp I purchased in June of 2009. It came with the 3 year warranty from the outlet, same as brand new. The Dell outlet page lists "Same as New Warranty* and Support" as the second feature of the outlet, right below free shipping. The 'Customize" page for the monitor lists: "3Yr Ltd. Warranty- Advance Exchange [Included in Price]" when you go to the "select my limited warranty" tab.

So, if you were on the fence because of the warranty issue, get off the fence and start enjoying your new monitor deal.

If you are curious what the * is, I found it here: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/why_dell_outlet?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh

Your card must support Dual Link DVI. Most modern cards do, though I'm not sure if your integrated card will. I would double check with a dell rep, since they would be able to pull your configuration based on the service tag on the machine.

Like I said, there is conflicting information. Policies may have changed, see http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfh/monit...d=10495476-1225267-u502989t2499361f9fp0c0s596 and the "Did you know All Refurbished Dell monitors come with a 90 day warranty?" link at the bottom.

I called two reps and they both said it's only 90 days. Someone at SD called three and they said only 90 days. It's just too risky for a $1k outlay.

Likewise I called a few times with the following results...

1st sales rep checked "with the IT group" and said because it was an ultrasharp it would have the 3 year warranty (and that non-ultrasharps are 90 days). When pressed with "are you 110% sure for a refurb?", she transferred me to technical support since they would be the ones I'd have to deal with in case of a problem. After a painful discussion trying to explain I had not actually bought it yet and that it was a refurb, he *thought* it would have the 3 year warranty. When asked about the 90 day disclaimer right on the monitor page, he transferred me to another tech support guy that said 90 days.

I called again and this time the sales rep said their general manager clearly stated all monitors have a 90 day warranty. He tried to transfer me to a "warranty customer service rep" and I wound up talking to some guy in software support who was obviously fumbling through some documentation of what their warranties are and he could not figure it out (I don't think he even knew what Dell Outlet meant). I give him credit for trying hard though.

So I try one more time... CSR *thinks* it is 90 days, transfers me to someone who is suppose to know, and he suggests after buying it I can check by looking up the service tag to see what the warranty is. Great - about like having a scratch off sticker on the box telling you what warranty you got!

Unbelievable that no one I talked to knew the answer for sure or even how to get the answer and actually suggested I would have to buy it to know for sure!?! Given the explicit note on the monitor page, I think it is unlikely for this to really have more than 90 days.

My conclusion - I would not buy with any expectation of more than a 90 day warranty and I would not look forward to having to deal with the group of people I spoke with to get a problem resolved.

Oh well - I'm pretty picky about monitors and was worried about going with a refurb anyways with some of the problems reported in the HardForum discussions so that is one less thing to worry about ;-)
