I contacted my Dell rep who sent me over to the DellOutlet team.

"The warranty is same as new is on systems and on the monitors it is 90 days"

I asked em if we could extend the warranty past 90 days:

"Refurbished Monitor only come with the 90 day warranty. To get a 3 year you would need to order a new monitor"

Buying something from Dell's refurb site does nothing to the remainder of the original warranty. If the item originally sold with a 3 year warranty, the remainder of it from the original invoice date would be available to the refurb purchaser. Transferring ownership of the service tag (all 30" monitors have a service tag) might be necessary to get warranty service. Dell "usually" does the ownership transfer automatically when something is repurchased thru them but I'll never guarantee it's done 100% of the time.

Edit: If monitors carry a different policy I was not aware of it till now (and I should know). I'll defer to what agressiv was quoted by Dell above my post.

well if what StanFL says is true then it might as well be that warranty be more than 90 days since these are u3011 models. I'll know when I get mine. It got shipped with delivery date of 29th this month.

on a side note. yesterday I called to talk about canceling my outlet order and the sales person tried to sell me the new U3011. quote "I spoke with my manager and I was able to get the promotion price of $1099."

so you can get these at 1099 brand new if you deal.

That is not correct. The warranty that comes with an outlet unit is started for the new owner effective with the new date of purchase and not whatever is remaining from the previous purchaser. If I buy an outlet laptop today with a one year warranty then my one year warranty starts today.

Monitors are different. They come with a 90 day warranty that starts with the data of purchase. What's in question here is if a monitor that originally came with a 1 or 3 year warrranty and has a service tag could retain the original warranty period. Dell reps don't really know crap. The only way to know for sure is find someone who bought this monitor before from the outlet and can confirm the warranty.

There is a big discussion about the same subject going on at SD also.

Monitor arrived.

Zero dead pixels. Zero lit pixels. Zero scratches, dents, any noticeable wear and tear at all. Honestly I can't tell this isn't brand new. Monitor works 100% perfect.

Blurry ass pic, but it's the 30" on the right... this is my current setup after the new U3011.

I couldn't be happier.

FWIW, I got my 2407 from outlet as a refurb ~4.5 years ago. Still works great. Only 2 issues. First is the DVI is problematic at times, but VGA works perfectly fine. Second is that the power button isn't secured and can spin. This wouldn't be a problem, except that it will only power it on if it's in the vertical alignment as it should be. Neither are deal killers though, and I love my monitor.

Most of my friends got a 24+ after seeing mine.

I got in on this refurb deal. It came today, as I posted 2 posts above. Given all the warranty talk, I checked my tag -- this is my service tag on the monitor. Looks like ~three years left on warranty.... looks like it transferred over since it starts 10/19. This really makes this a friggin sweet deal. Get monitor for $899 for basically losing 60 days of warranty (since it started 10/19 vs 12/20). Regardless though, monitor is 100% perfect and I doubt I have to ever use the warranty.

Check it again in a week or two. It can sometimes take that long for the new information to show up in the warrantly section. I ordered an Inspiron 15 laptop a few days ago and it's still in shipping phase but I got the service tag and it has a warranty start date of 07/2010. I ordered three Inspirons last month and all of their warranty dates have been updated to my purchase date.

Has anyone who purchased one checked the service tag to see what the deal is with the warranty?

The warranty for Dell Outlet refurbs had the language changed from 3-years to 90-days. If the monitor ever needs service outside of the 90-day period, you will likely find yourself out of luck -- unless there's some sort of clerical error. I've definitely seen a lot of wishful thinking on the issue. Too bad because this deal is hot otherwise.

i received mine. looks new just like other refrubs i bought. while 90 days is not a long time, I don't think it will go bad if it survives those days considering I use it often.

Also I got a 15% discount coupon for other things.

I'm still a bit curious to see what the service tag info says. The devil is in the details, so to speak. It wouldn't be the first time a phone rep was incorrect.

I would be interested as well. I do know that Dell allows a transfer of ownership with remaining warranty on independent sales. You aren't even asked for the original owner's name if you both are living in the same country.

http://support.dell.com/support/top...ange_order/tag_transfer?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh

However, I do believe these refurbs are manually reset to new terms from the date of purchase, which can take weeks. Though a clerical error also means the old warranty information remains, which knowing Dell, is a good possibility.
