Not entirely true, it does include FreeDOS.

True, quite a bit overstated in the bare-bones department, but it's there.

I can put together an acceptable build, with no monitor, for 319. Tempting.

Every single upgrade is as much as 4x cheaper to get at newegg and upgrade later, but for what it has $280 is great for a basic desktop system sans OS. I am curious if the motherboard is capable of running a C2D though... anyone know what motherboard/chipset this thing uses?

According to ChubbyWalltet, it supports C2D and might do QC.

Guys how hot is this really? Last week I purchased a E521 with C2D 1.8ghz, 1GB RAM, Vista Home Premium, 250gb sata, dvd burner, 22" wfp for $669+tax. Once you add all the components, doesnt this add up to over $500?

no free shipping. the core2duo 4300 deal for ~379/389 was a better deal imho.

Only diff is a larger HD and XP Home. I would much rather buy the 279 version and install XP Pro myself without any added bloat. This would be a perfect office machine!

$279 + $29.99 shipping = $309

So it's $40 less.

You get Windows XP Home, 160GB HD (vs 80GB), and DVD+/-RW dual layer burner (vs DVD-ROM).

I'd say that's worth the $40, IMHO.

well in the graphics part it says it comes with gma x3000.

so that means the chipset is a g965, so it should be able to take all the core 2s.

Not necessarily.

The E520 (and E521) will NOT fit dual slot video cards. So you definitely cannot put an 8800 series card in this system.

Of course any single-slot PCI Express card will fit fine. The PSU is fully capable of running a 7950 GT or an X1950 Pro (single slot versions) or an 8600 series card.

Another important thing to remember is there are zero PATA slots on the motherboard. Yes, even the optical drives are all SATA of course. Do NOT even try to run any kind of PATA drive in this system, not even with some kind of adapter. You'll only pull your hair out.

Adding in a 2407 LCD bumps price by $700.

Tried on another system to add in that LCD and it only goes up by 460 dollars.
