as/400 wrote something about being able to find snap-on cores. . .

http://arstechnica.infopop.net/OpenTopic/page?q=Y&a=tpc&s=50009562&f=67909965&m=537099965

if any of you guys know where this stuff is, please post. . .though im not sure that snap-on cores do the same job as ones that are already built into the cable, they cant hurt. . .who knows?. ..maybe you might opt for the more expensive belkin and add a few cores if it makes you feel better about the BNC?

Would anyone like to compare the one selling at pc cables versus symmic? Which is best bang for buck?

scrubman,

Your monitor should have a setting on it's on-screen display config to switch between d-sub and bnc. So you can't really have 2 inputs simulatenously displaying. And nothing will blow up.

really folks, those 15 pin d-subs use 75 ohm internal cables. Your 150+ MHz video would look pretty p1$$ poor on anything else. BNC's are great for hooking up non-standard equipment, but give me a break. Any decent 15pin vga cable <e.g. the one that came with your mon.> is gonna look as good as these.

Where these cables really stand out is for those goofy mon's you can sometimes find for unbelievable prices at hamfests & such.

Next time you see a 21" mon for $99 think of these cables. :disgust::frown::disgust:

BNC cables are not always better than 15 pin d-sub cables. In fact, I get a better picture with the 15 pin d-sub cable which came with my 21 in. than BNC cable which I bought later expecting to get a better picture.

Unless, you get one of the better quality BNC cables, you might be better off keeping your original 15 pin cable.

Now all this talk has made me a bit curious.

I do agree though, that if your going for the best display quality your monitor can offer through the use of BNC cables, then it would probably be a good idea to check out some non-budget cables.

So that said, who makes "proven" BNC cables, in your opinion, or who has a BNC cable round up article? j/k

zuffy,

The monster cable actually looks pretty good. Did it make any noticeable diference in picture quality compared to the stock cable?

fxsts,

Not really, but then again I didn't go and jacked the res. to 1600 x 1200 to verify the quality different. I'm running @ 1280 x 1024. I spent $950 for the monitor... I think my monitor deserves a better cable than the manufacturer one... that's how I feel about spending money on cables.

I have problems, especially at home, like when you turn on a light in another room, my monitor has a very noticable "shake" to it, like the entire image is shaking from left to right ... Would using the BNC cables with the filter on it from PCCables.com or the iron ferrite core one from symmic fix my problem? I'm already using a UPS that has a line filter on it to try to get rid of the shaking, but it doesn't help. Turning on a vaccuum cleaner usually has the same effect. If this would fix the problem, I'd jump on this deal, but I dont know if it would ... (I have a Viewsonic PS790 running @ 1280x1024, 85Hz ... if that makes a difference)

the one from pccables looks like it has a ferrite core as well, but the core alone probably wont solve the problem, since i can guarantee you have at least one on your 15 pin d-sub. . .if it will do the job, it will be becuase its harder to mess wtih a signal in good coax cable (because its protected better from outside interferance), especially when the signals are nice and separated, than it is to interefere with the weaker (i think), closer together 15pin d-sub signal . . .
im not an expert, so please correct me if im wrong. . .but i think this is the way it goes. . .

I ordered one of these when you first posted this deal. It came quickly, seems well made, had the ferrite core molded in; nice product. For those who want to use many ferrite cores, they are available at some Radio Shacks and the old standby Marlin P. Jones. Ferrite cores are generally used for interference in the >1Mhz. range so I don't know that it will help the vacuum cleaner problem On my iiyama 17" the BNC connection showed no perceivable difference over D-sub, but, what the heck, it looks really cool.

what res are you running?. . .i mean this very nicely. . .not to be snotty. . .but for those who use 17 inchers and lower, you prob wont see a diff. . .these cables really only help out at higher res's (say 1600 x 1200 and up). ..if you have a 17 inch. ..chances are your running 1280 x 1024. ..im not sure it will make a big diff there. ..also, when did you order?. ..becuase i ordered one before i posted, and it shipped on the 3rd . ..but it still aint here. . .

everybody:
BTW, im not sure if snap-on ferrite cores work the same as built in ones, but if they do, and if it will save you a few bucks, or if you have one of those belkins without a core, here's a link. . .
Snap-On Ferrite Cores
. . .enjoy. . .

*edit*
BTW. ..these cores are TDK's. ..just a sidenote, they should be pretty good, becuase they shipped them with my Sharp MiniDV camcorder to be placed both on the power supply cable and the video adapter to the TV. . .
