In regards to the Minolta, I have read that it has compatibility issues with Windows XP. The Lexmark, on the other hand, does not.

I picked up 2 of these off the Wal Mart clearance shelf for 69 bucks each brand new unopened, and I hooked up one, and it works great. need to buy a USB or parallel cable for it though.

AaronP: when did you pick these 2 up from Walmart?

Also, if you try to print something like a long tax form, will the printer be able to handle it, or is it only a problem with large graphics files?

Thanks

I have Samsung ML1210. WhenI switched from 98SE to XP the USB driver becane very erratic. I switched toparallel cable and it is O.K.

Quality is pretty good.

First of all this guy only has 2MB not 4, don't know why some places have them different (thru I heard a select few come with 4MB memory). Many other under $200 lasers come with only USB, this one has both USB and Parallel (I use this guy on my Print Sever with the Barricade). The print quality is excellent, I love mine. My buddy with a $500 laser says he doesn't see any difference. I wanted the Samsung, but this one is great for the money. The starter toner may seem small, but after almost 6 months I'm still on it.

Not sure about the Toner, make sure it's the #10S0150, not a easy to find toner as the printer is pretty new. Don't know why but for a while OM had the Toner for under $60, maybe they'll get it back for that much later.

I wouldn't doubt that it uses the same cartridge as a samsung. I've got a samsung printer and the internals look identical at least for an eyeball. If it's print quality is anything like the samsung it is a solid printer. Only fault I have with mine is trying to print things smaller than 5pt. I guess that is nit picky most people don't run that anyways. I used to have a NEC 870 that was an awesome printer too bad NEC is crappy with there print drivers so I was never able to get it to work on my Windows 2000 box.

I bought the Minolta 1100L from Costco for about $100 after the rebate +tax. It's an excellent laser printer, no problems with Win2k. I'd imagine anything run on Win2k would do fine on XP.

I'd avoid a Lexmark personally, not because I've bought the Minolta already (which I could return if I want, gotta love 90days policy). But I've had a Lexmark laser at work, and it's broken down twice. I just don't think it has a good reputation. For $30 more, you can get the Minolta 1100L with a 3000page rated toner, and the 4mb buffer.

I didn't read the thread. But for your info, the E210 costs .04/page. While the Samsung costs around .017 to .026 per page. So in the long run, the E210 can be pretty expensive.

I just bought a Samsung from buy.com few days ago, and it is awesome.

Just to let you guys know that the Minolta 1100L doesn't work with certain print servers (like the ones on routers). I bought a 1100L a while ago from staples, but then I had to return it and get a lexmark E210 because it wouldn't work with the print server in my SMC router.

So far i'm happy with my E210. The print quality is ok, but when I think i'm getting a laser printer for the price of an inkjet printer, I have no complains

ok i have the minolta 1100L printer. Here is the wrap sheet on it. This printer works just fine under WinXP. The Drivers came out for it and it runs just fine. The print quality is very good. The grayscale would be better as it prints more towards black then gray, but it is bearable to good. The toner is very good and last a long time. Toners cost about $50 and last about 3000-3500 pages i think. The 1100L version does not work on print servers since it is a GDI printer and requires the CPU to process the print job. Any print server that can do this will work with this printer. The 1100 NOT L version will work with print servers, but that cost more. Lastly, this printer is only a parallel port printer, no USB. Overall I paid about $100 for my 1100L with an extra toner, so i really paid $50. Great deal for me, and I love the printer. Can use it for a printer server though, which i would have loved, but for $50 you cant complain.

i don't know where your getting it, but at staples the minolta 1100L shows up at $230.99 1100 L

That's more like $160 more than the Lexmark

I have the E-210....it's a great little printer. I got it mainly becase of the price and I need the parallel port so I could use it w/ my print server. I've been using it for about 3 months now and have gone through about 3 reams (500 sheets a piece) and I'm still on the first toner cart. All I can say is, it much cheaper to run than my old HP600C inkjet printer and the print quality is great.

The Minolta I'm talking about is the same 1100L, but only $130 at Costco, and there's also a $30 rebate on it.

Just got one of these.

149.98 - 15.00 (10% open box, they said because "stupid customers don't know how to set it up"-- HAHA!
= 135

+ veo stingray:
=29.98

+ 0% tax (pa tax free week)

- $30 off 150 staples coupon
- $50 lex rebate
- $30 veo rebate

= $54.96 for printer + pc camera - I'm a happy guy! The toner seems cheap enough, and I have no real need for color -- my only concern was when the drum went bad, but even then I suppose you can still print coupons and stuff.

When I first booted up, the computer won't find the drivers on the disk unless you go to the specific directory, which is why I imagine it was returned. But when you get it going, its fast as hell! Holy smokes. When it gets the info in the print buffer you hear it wind up like a turbocharger, and then BANG! out it comes mucho pronto.

Great deal, thanks!

OK, I bit. Couldn't pass up a laser for $70. Initial toner should last me a year or two considering how often I print.

Thanks for the deal May.

Guys,
I would certainly go in for the Costco Minolta Model.

Reasons :
1) Costco price is 130 - 30 (Costco MIR) - 30 (Minolta MIR) = $70
2) Minolta comes with a 3000 page capacity toner - lexmark with 1000 page capacity toner - the extra 2000 page capacity toner would cost Lexmark owners a further $70 - so effective cost is $140.
3) Minolta memory is upgradable - it taxes SDRAM dimm - I guess can take upto 128 MB. Its the standard 128MB SDRAM DIMM - I havent opened my set yet - but photos seem to suggest so.

The only cons :
1) No Linux support - big negative
2) Cant work behind a print server
